If Lew Ford is the DH, Buck can pinch hit Thome in a big spot.

Duh.
   702. Davo Dozier (Mastroianni) Posted: October 07, 2012 at 08:59 PM (#4258611)
Lew Ford, Robert Andino, and Nate McLouth. 8-9-1 for the Orioles.

Baseball fever--catch it!

I hate seeing ford out there too but it's a lefty matchup thing. Thome will come in after CC goes out.

Joe Angel quips: Jeter getting the Bronx cheer out there. Wul, natch!

Matchups, bah! When Danny Espinosa was going through his extended rough patch in the first half of this season he was so awful batting left that I don't know why they didn't just order him to bat right-handed against righties and see what happens. He couldn't have done worse.

Tbs is out for me. This happen to anyone else?

TBS HD went out for some during the Nats game, but when I checked my HD feed here a few minutes later it was good. I'm watching in the LR on a standard definition TV so didn't know then, but looks good now anyway.

edit: Just checked TBS HD and it is OK. Well, the score is bad, but they can't fix that.
   709. The Yankee Clapper Posted: October 07, 2012 at 09:11 PM (#4258622)
Yeah, TBS went out for a few minutes for me during the Nats game, too. Thought the cable box was just "tired" from all the multi-tasking today.
   710. Guts Posted: October 07, 2012 at 09:15 PM (#4258626)
Yeah...who's umping this game?
   711. The Yankee Clapper Posted: October 07, 2012 at 09:20 PM (#4258630)
Breaking News: In the on-line edition, the Washington Post is running its story on the Nationals playoff win above the story on the Redskins regular season loss, on both the front page and sports page. Not sure whether that will hold up in the print version.
   712. boteman digs the circuit clout Posted: October 07, 2012 at 09:21 PM (#4258632)
RGIII will sue!!
   713. BourbonSamurai Is a Lazy Nogoodnik Posted: October 07, 2012 at 09:25 PM (#4258633)
eh, the Nats have been covered over the skins quite a bit in the last month or so. it is a nice development.
   714. DKDC Posted: October 07, 2012 at 09:29 PM (#4258635)
RGIII getting hurt (if its serious) is objectively probably a bigger story than going up 1-0 in a divisional series.
   715. Esoteric Posted: October 07, 2012 at 09:31 PM (#4258637)
See, THAT'S why Lew Ford is DH'ing.
   716. smileyy Posted: October 07, 2012 at 09:31 PM (#4258638)
I'll be impressed if RGIII knows what the Washington Post is, let alone is able to read it right now.

Tip to promising young quarterbacks: step out of bounds.
   717. Chris Fluit Posted: October 07, 2012 at 09:31 PM (#4258639)
Rally time!
   718. boteman digs the circuit clout Posted: October 07, 2012 at 09:31 PM (#4258640)
Lew Ford: so much power that he breaks his bat and STILL drives the ball into left field.
   719. Guts Posted: October 07, 2012 at 09:31 PM (#4258641)
Obviously, Lew Ford gets on against CC. I guess Buck is a genius after all.
   720. Textbook Editor Posted: October 07, 2012 at 09:32 PM (#4258643)
Thanks for the info. Comcast tells me SD works but not HD.
   721. boteman digs the circuit clout Posted: October 07, 2012 at 09:34 PM (#4258644)
C.C. going up against David Wells for fattest Yankees pitcher title.
   722. Esoteric Posted: October 07, 2012 at 09:34 PM (#4258645)
The way the O's season has gone, I predict Nate McClouth hits the ball out of Camden Yards.

(oh please oh please oh please....)

EDIT: CLOSE ENOUGH AND I'LL TAKE IT!!
   723. Chris Fluit Posted: October 07, 2012 at 09:35 PM (#4258646)
"and the Orioles have the lead"

Lew Ford getting a hit burned a lot of Oriole Magic.

Lew Ford getting a hit burned a lot of Oriole Magic.
Good thing a little was left in reserve for Nate McLouth.
   726. BourbonSamurai Is a Lazy Nogoodnik Posted: October 07, 2012 at 09:38 PM (#4258650)
Nate McClouth!
   727. Esoteric Posted: October 07, 2012 at 09:38 PM (#4258651)
Now what are the chances Hammel can hold the line here? I'm thinking not so good.
   728. Guts Posted: October 07, 2012 at 09:45 PM (#4258658)
Good thing a little was left in reserve for Nate McLouth.

There appears to be more. I guess I shouldn't have assumed there is a finite amount.
   729. Lassus Posted: October 07, 2012 at 09:48 PM (#4258659)
I know I want the Yankees to lose, but I would prefer they lose in the WS, I think. I want them beaten by the NL.
   730. Esoteric Posted: October 07, 2012 at 09:48 PM (#4258660)
This is going to be one agonizing grind of a game.

Alright, you squint-faced loaf pincher, how about a hit?
   733. Lassus Posted: October 07, 2012 at 09:51 PM (#4258664)

How did Swisher not score there?

Also I can't believe Tex didn't GIDP. #watchestoomanycardinalsgames
   737. Joyful Calculus Instructor Posted: October 07, 2012 at 09:52 PM (#4258668)
I thought Teixeira's drive was going to be a home run. And he really dogged it up until he reached first base. Huge out.

[732] Obviously, I should have been more specific ... how about a hit AND THEN YOU DON'T GET THROWN OUT BY 6 FEET?!?!?!?!?
   741. Guts Posted: October 07, 2012 at 09:54 PM (#4258673)
Baltimore crowd cheers Hammel almost killing Martin.
   742. DKDC Posted: October 07, 2012 at 09:54 PM (#4258674)
Hammel is wild. Not sure he lasts 5.
   743. Guts Posted: October 07, 2012 at 09:55 PM (#4258675)
Swisher should have scored, no clue what he was doing. Oriole magic holds.
   744. The Yankee Clapper Posted: October 07, 2012 at 09:55 PM (#4258676)
. . . he really dogged it up until he reached first base.

May have been more the calf injury than lack of effort.
   745. Mayor Blomberg Posted: October 07, 2012 at 09:56 PM (#4258677)
737 - Didn't look like he dogged it out of the box. that's just ol' Slowfoot.
   746. DKDC Posted: October 07, 2012 at 09:57 PM (#4258678)
Chris Davis made a perfect throw, too. He has a good arm, as Adrian Gonzalez knows well.
   747. Fat Al Posted: October 07, 2012 at 09:57 PM (#4258679)
And you have no clue what swisher was doing because TBS can't be bothered to show or tell you. I forget every year how much their coverage annoys me.
   748. The John Wetland Memorial Death (CoB) Posted: October 07, 2012 at 09:58 PM (#4258680)
[745] Yeah, the Loaf Pincher never dogs it, he's just dragging 3 or 4 pianos around the bases ... and the calf.

It's so much better than Fox, though.

Sabathia could go 15 innings at this rate. Need to knock him out the old fashioned way.

   753. DKDC Posted: October 07, 2012 at 10:09 PM (#4258689)
Hammel doesn't really have his swing-and-miss stuff today.

The Yankees must've hit 40 foul balls so far.
   754. Lassus Posted: October 07, 2012 at 10:12 PM (#4258691)
I wonder if Dominic West is watching this somewhere.

"Lew Ford" sounds like an old crusty veteran. A guy you'd store in a case that reads "break glass only in case of late-game emergency".

WOW. That's some kinda reaction from McClouth.

   770. Davo Dozier (Mastroianni) Posted: October 07, 2012 at 10:25 PM (#4258712)
I wasn't sure if McLouth thought he'd walked, or if he was just frustrated with himself for taking such an obvious strike.
   771. boteman digs the circuit clout Posted: October 07, 2012 at 10:25 PM (#4258713)
When "strike 2" was a strike, why would you think that one was going to be a ball?

Because it might have been just like that last pitch, spiked into the dirt in front of the plate. Guessing.

What? Hammel is BACK?
   773. DKDC Posted: October 07, 2012 at 10:29 PM (#4258715)
They'll probably have a lefty ready and pull hammel soon.
   774. Lassus Posted: October 07, 2012 at 10:29 PM (#4258716)
Oh, no, I think McClouth's reaction is that knew he was out, and overmatched; I don't think he thought it was a ball at all.
