Division Six OmniChatter

By the end of the day, at least two teams will be eliminated since baseball is a cruel sport and October is a harsh mistress. Or something like that.

How are Latos-Hanigan at stopping the SB?
   102. Moe Greene Posted: October 11, 2012 at 02:20 PM (#4263889)
First hitter on base... this could be a breakthrough for the Giants.

Did the zone shrink this inning?
   104. Matt Clement of Alexandria Posted: October 11, 2012 at 02:21 PM (#4263894)
I'm worried about Latos now. He doesn't seem to have his best secondary stuff. Cain on the other hand is getting stronger every inning.

High cutter. Bad, bad pitch.

I know its early but that feels like a killer for the Reds

According to b-r, 17 of 20 SB attempts were successful against Latos.

Gameday has balls 1 and 2 to Crawford as right over the plate.

Triple [x]. Or was that yesterday?
   111. Jose Can Still Seabiscuit Posted: October 11, 2012 at 02:23 PM (#4263904)
Local commercial here in SW Florida for Mel's Diner. Always make me remember Vic Tayback.

A few years ago I was in Florida and some guy spent about 15 minutes explaining in great detail the free hat he got at Mel's with breakfast a few days before. He was very excited about the hat.

EDIT: Got confused, Matt Cain is at bat, not pitching, MCoA is right, dammit.
   112. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: October 11, 2012 at 02:24 PM (#4263905)
i agree with bourbon

the reds had their shot in the first inning and missed which pretty much sums up the games in gab to this point
   113. Gamingboy Posted: October 11, 2012 at 02:24 PM (#4263906)
Triple was a few days ago.
   114. Gamingboy Posted: October 11, 2012 at 02:25 PM (#4263908)
I want a better view of that play before I do a conradian judgement.
   115. Matt Clement of Alexandria Posted: October 11, 2012 at 02:26 PM (#4263909)
Oh, that was bad.

The proper play was to first.
   116. Hey - you and Tommy Lasorda...I hate Tommy Lasorda Posted: October 11, 2012 at 02:26 PM (#4263910)
That's got to be Conradian
   117. hokieneer Posted: October 11, 2012 at 02:26 PM (#4263911)
Reds have had runners on early every game at home so. Yet to produce anything.
   118. fra paolo Posted: October 11, 2012 at 02:26 PM (#4263912)
Oh dear, I think that could be the killer.
   119. Matt Clement of Alexandria Posted: October 11, 2012 at 02:26 PM (#4263913)
It's hard to call it Conradian when there wasn't a play at home.

   123. Hey - you and Tommy Lasorda...I hate Tommy Lasorda Posted: October 11, 2012 at 02:29 PM (#4263919)
On the original, the ball went through Conrad's legs, IIRC. There was no play on it.
   124. Gamingboy Posted: October 11, 2012 at 02:30 PM (#4263920)
This is a total disaster for Cincy, and here comes one B. Posey.

Can anyone summarize the misplay for us working schlubs?"
Pagan grounded to short and Crawford broke for home. Cozart tried to throw the ball before he'd caught it. He bobbled it and didn't get off a throw to either base.

EDIT: He tried to throw home, I mean.
   126. Bourbon Samurai in Asia Posted: October 11, 2012 at 02:31 PM (#4263923)
Is Mat latos really the ace for the Reds?
   127. hokieneer Posted: October 11, 2012 at 02:31 PM (#4263924)
Cmon latos!
   128. Moe Greene Posted: October 11, 2012 at 02:31 PM (#4263927)
Well, Cueto is the ace for the Reds.

But I'd put Latos 2nd.
   129. The Chronicles of Reddick Posted: October 11, 2012 at 02:31 PM (#4263928)
Not looking good for the Red legs of Cincy.
   130. Joey B. "disrespects the A" Posted: October 11, 2012 at 02:32 PM (#4263930)
I'm going for the Giants, just because I like the unlikelihood of losing two games at home and then winning the back three on the road. I don't believe that's ever been done.

N.L. teams who have taken a 2-0 series lead in divisional play are 21 for 21, up to this point.
   131. Hey - you and Tommy Lasorda...I hate Tommy Lasorda Posted: October 11, 2012 at 02:32 PM (#4263931)
Infield in, Crawford on 3rd, one out. Ball hit to Cozart, somewhat sharply, he looked like he didn't know whether to go home or 1b ( Crawford broke on the ba toted ball). He dropped the ball, everybody safe.
   132. Jose Can Still Seabiscuit Posted: October 11, 2012 at 02:32 PM (#4263932)

MCoA called it all at the start of the inning. I just don't know how you let a struggling pitcher face a guy like Posey in that spot. That's the end of the Reds season right there in all likelihood.

   156. Gamingboy Posted: October 11, 2012 at 02:37 PM (#4263959)
Given how much the error hurt in retrospect, I am deeming it Conradian. Remember, Conrad's errors weren't just embarrassing, they were also major game changers.

Really hard to blame Dusty. Latos was cruising, and should have had two out none on even after the two runs scored. There wasn't time to get the pen going, I don't think.

Its on latos. He got slightly sqeezed against Blanco and Crawford and let it get to him.

Plus why was lecure warming first? In that situation, you need to start at the back of the pen.

   171. Matt Clement of Alexandria Posted: October 11, 2012 at 02:43 PM (#4263981)
Why would Latos throw a cutter on 2-2 with the bases loaded and one out? That's a situation where you absolutely must get the out, via strikeout if at all possible. Why throw your third pitch there? Why throw a pitch you use to pitch to contact? Why throw the pitch that Brandon Crawford just stung down the line a few hitters ago? I guess he was thinking GIDP, but with two strikes, I really don't like that pitch call.
   172. Matt Clement of Alexandria Posted: October 11, 2012 at 02:44 PM (#4263982)

Cain's still throwing well. That was a good slider Stubbs hit. I don't see the Reds coming back, not this inning at least.

If the Giants hold on and the A's win tonight, you'll have the weird coincidence of the road team winning every game of one series**, while the home team is winning every game of another series.

**Never happened before in the Major Leagues, though it did happen once in the Junior World Series.

There have been 17 LDS seasons played so far which means there have been 34 NLDS played. 21 out of 34 have featured a team up 2-0? That seems surprising to me. I would think 1-1 is a more common result than 2-0 particularly when you are talking about series with roughly evenly matched teams.
