Doctor: Schilling could be throwing off mound by Jan. after successful surgery

Hold off on those HOF debates!

Curt Schilling’s shoulder operation has gone well and his surgeon says he could be throwing off a mound again by January.

Monday’s surgery on the 41-year-old Boston Red Sox right-hander lasted just under two hours and involved repairs to his tendon and labrum. Dr. Craig Morgan said he found no significant rotator cuff damage, which would have extended the recovery period by several months.

The operation was done in Delaware, where Morgan is based.

Schilling has been sidelined all season after signing a one-year, $8 million contract. He joined the Red Sox in 2004 and had helped them win two World Series.

The Red Sox are deep in young starters. They don't really need Schilling.
Having said that, I hope he keeps pitching

Here's hoping he can recover, pitch for Tampa next year (he had discussed them as a potential location IIRC) and get his teeth kicked in every time he takes the mound.

Check that, Cowboy. I'm sure you mean: "here's hoping that whatever teeth he may be missing at any particular moment continue to be missing."

:)

Has there been any word on how Smoltz's surgery went? I never did hear anything.

i can't wait for Schilling to pitch the decisive 1 game playoff for the wildcard against the Yankees for the Rays... and hold the Yankees scoreless for 7 innings as he leads the Rays to the playoffs. Just to watch CP's head explode.
