Document Banning Pete Rose From Baseball Goes on Sale

Rose’s personal copy of the 1989 agreement—the only other original copy belongs to Major League Baseball—is being put up for bid by Goldin Auctions. In addition to Rose’s autograph, the pact features the signatures of Rose’s attorney, Giamatti and Fay Vincent, the deputy commissioner who ended up succeeding Giamatti.
[...]
The auction is scheduled to begin on October 15 and remain open for nearly four weeks. Bids start at $100,000, and [Goldin Auctions founder Ken] Goldin estimates the document could fetch between $500,000 and $1 million.

Your chance to own a scuzzy piece of history.

It's always sad when an athlete has to part with a treasured item.

I bet it goes for less than a million...

No, the guy running the auction said it might go for a million! Why would he lie about such a thing?

This is why it's good that I'm not independently wealthy. If I had the money I'd snap this up in a heartbeat.

The fact that I would snap something like this up in a heartbeat is probably part of the reason I'm NOT independently wealthy.

And you're hoping this will give them the idea of getting you Pete Rose's head on a pike?

Shooty I had the under on posts before a bet joke was made.

Thanks.

I presume the varied amounts are a function of the uncertainty of the condition of the document itself.

Because based on the way Rose has carried himself since 1989, I could see the document being in pristine condition due to Rose never having read it, or I could see it being totally soiled after he repeatedly wiped his butt with it.

Pete Rose slides into third base in March 1986.

He wasn't a Phillie in 1986. Now I doubt the authenticity of the whole story.

The line was 1.5 so you really shot yourself in the foot.

I would have bet the under if the line were 0.5. I'm surprised the intro was bet-joke-free.

God does not play dice. But He has a fantastic tip on a little 12-1 filly running in Santa Anita.

Is Hauls of Shame going to report one day that these documents are inauthentic? ;-)
