Clayton Kershaw has ascended. The 21-year-old lefty will start Game 1 of the National League Championship Series, the Dodgers have announced.

My projection for Kershaw's 2013 line as a high-strikeout, high-power centerfielder with a powerful arm: 247/335/490.

DON'T YOU EVER JOKE ABOUT THAT.

Kershaw
Wolf

Kuroda
Padilla

(off)
Kershaw
Kuroda

* - Based on the belief the Dodgers would rather start Kershaw at home and on long rest. (That's what I've heard, anyway.)
   4. Tripon Posted: October 14, 2009 at 10:05 PM (#3352338)
They're not going to pitch Wolf on three days rest.
   5. Earvin 'Gold Stars' Johnson Posted: October 14, 2009 at 10:09 PM (#3352342)
You're right; count the dayzzzzzzzz.

Looks like that would be four days.
   7. Tuque Posted: October 14, 2009 at 10:11 PM (#3352346)
I am so excited. I really hope they don't choke like they did last year.

My projection for Kershaw's 2013 line as a high-strikeout, high-power centerfielder with a powerful arm: 247/335/490.

I laughed. Though it's not funny.
   8. Tripon Posted: October 14, 2009 at 10:18 PM (#3352352)
DodgertownUSA #Dodgers rotation is Kershaw, Padilla, Kuroda and Wolf @mlb

Whoa, Padilla got a promotion.
   9. Earvin 'Gold Stars' Johnson Posted: October 14, 2009 at 10:21 PM (#3352353)
Wat?
Can't wait to hear Torre's thinking behind this.
And what of Billingsley?
   10. Tripon Posted: October 14, 2009 at 10:26 PM (#3352355)
Billingsley is probably pitching in the bullpen. Garland off the roster. Scott Elbert might make the roster as a LOOGY in place of Troncoso.
   11. Crispix Attacks Posted: October 14, 2009 at 10:32 PM (#3352359)
Garland off the roster?!?
   12. Earvin 'Gold Stars' Johnson Posted: October 14, 2009 at 10:35 PM (#3352361)
Torre probably decided he only needs one long man out of the pen, and Billingsley is it.
   13. Tripon Posted: October 14, 2009 at 10:40 PM (#3352362)
Actually two long men. Weaver likely keeps his roster spot. The Dodgers are going with a 11 man pitching roster.

Starting rotation:
Kershaw
Padilla
Kuroda
Wolf

bullpen:
Weaver
Billingsley
Belisario
Kuo
Sherill
Broxton
Elbert

The Elbert pick is speculation. Its obvious though that Garland isn't going to make the roster though.

When do rosters need to be finalized?
   15. Earvin 'Gold Stars' Johnson Posted: October 14, 2009 at 10:48 PM (#3352365)
Game 1 lineup:
Furcal - SS
Ethier - RF
Ramirez - LF
Kemp - CF
Blake - 3B
Loney - 1B
Belliard - 2B
Martin - C
Kershaw - P
(from twitter.com/DodgertownUSA)

Interesting, dropping Kemp from No. 2 to cleanup, after he struggled down the stretch and into the NLDS (Game 1 homer notwithstanding).

Thursday at 10AM
   17. Crispix Attacks Posted: October 14, 2009 at 10:56 PM (#3352368)
Geez, Garland comes over and greatly improves his stats from what he did with the Diamondbacks, and still gets left off in favor of the headhunting alcoholic. At least he already has a World Series ring.
   18. flournoy Posted: October 14, 2009 at 11:09 PM (#3352376)
Trivia time! Who was the Dodgers' oldest pitcher this year?
   19. Earvin 'Gold Stars' Johnson Posted: October 14, 2009 at 11:10 PM (#3352377)
Sherrill?

EDIT: Wasn't even close.
   20. Crispix Attacks Posted: October 14, 2009 at 11:11 PM (#3352378)
Schmidt?
   21. Craig Calcaterra Posted: October 14, 2009 at 11:16 PM (#3352380)
Newcombe?
   22. Tripon Posted: October 14, 2009 at 11:17 PM (#3352381)
Eric Milton?
   23. Earvin 'Gold Stars' Johnson Posted: October 14, 2009 at 11:20 PM (#3352384)
One of the things I find amazing about this season is that no less than 12 pitchers started for the Dodgers - and all but two of them posted above-average ERA+.
   24. Crispix Attacks Posted: October 14, 2009 at 11:26 PM (#3352385)
Quite a contrast from last year, when they had five guys who had recently finished in the top three of Cy Young voting, three of whom had ERAs over 5.00 and one of whom didn't pitch at all. And the only one of those five guys who was on the Dodgers this year is the one who didn't pitch last year.
   25. flournoy Posted: October 14, 2009 at 11:29 PM (#3352386)
So for anyone who hasn't looked it up yet, the answer to my question is Mark Loretta.
   26. Bitter Calculus Instructor Posted: October 14, 2009 at 11:47 PM (#3352392)
Anyone who saw Garland's starts with the Dodgers would have seen the smoke and mirrors. I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't make the cut, but I'd think Weaver would be cut first. I really hope they don't waste a roster spot on Scott "5+era" Elbert just because he happens to throw with his left hand.
   27. Tripon Posted: October 14, 2009 at 11:51 PM (#3352394)
Weaver is more likely be able to pitch after called on short notice than Garland.
   28. Earvin 'Gold Stars' Johnson Posted: October 14, 2009 at 11:52 PM (#3352395)
Weaver cemented his spot with his performance against the Cards in Game 1.
When Torre called on him to warm up with Wolf struggling, I couldn't believe it. But that was some clutch pitching.

Torre and Weaver. Nice.

Can someone teach me how to link?

Just hit the <a> button and post it in the pop up box.

If you have some text you want as link,

Like This,

just highlight it and press the <a> button that is just above the comment box.
   32. Crispix Attacks Posted: October 15, 2009 at 12:09 AM (#3352408)
Use the "<a>" box above the comment box.

That must have been the game that inspired the Yankees to bring in Pavano as the stopper they needed.

Thanks guys.

The Dodgers need J. Russell Martin to square up a few
   36. Tripon Posted: October 15, 2009 at 01:11 AM (#3352435)
Martin is batting 8th. Why would anyone pitch to him when you have a near certain out in the pitcher?
   37. Bitter Calculus Instructor Posted: October 15, 2009 at 01:28 AM (#3352443)
[36] Because Martin is a GDP machine.
   38. ColonelTom Posted: October 15, 2009 at 02:20 AM (#3352473)
Torre's bunching the RH batters 3/4/5 (Manny, Kemp, Blake). Bait for Brad Lidge in the 9th?
   39. Tripon Posted: October 15, 2009 at 02:39 AM (#3352483)
Its official. Bills to pen, Garland off the roster.

In light of tonight's developments, this comment is now not only funny but brilliant.
