MLB.com: Dodgers finish NLDS sweep of Cubs

And then there were seven…

The Dodgers advanced to the National League Championship Series for the first time in 20 years with their first postseason sweep in 45 years, beating the Cubs Saturday night, 3-1, to win the NL Division Series.

The Dodgers received their third strong start in as many playoff games, this one from Japanese import Hiroki Kuroda, who blanked the Cubs for 6 1/3 innings.

No doubt their opponents didn't do a good job of converting, but if the Cubs had used a pinch hitter or two they could have won those.

Facts? You expect me to believe facts and data? Why on earth should I care about facts and results over conjecture? Who the hell do you think I am, some kind of patsy?

the odds of the Phillies missing out on the playoffs at that point were close to 0.

The 2007 Mets were beaten by one team; the Phillies would have needed to be passed by two teams.

Edit: After the games on Monday the 22nd, when the Cubs definitely played their A team, the Phillies were up 2.5 games on the Mets and 3.5 on the Brewers, with 5 to play for the Phils and 6 each for the Mets and Brewers. The Phillies finished 3-2; obviously we didn't know that but looking back, the worst Philly could have done is a 1 game playoff; the Brewers couldn't catch them and the Mets could only tie. If they went 2-3 instead, the Mets would have needed to go 5-1 to tie them and the Brewers would have needed to run the table to tie them. If the Phillies went 1-4, then they would have been out even a 1 game playoff if the Mets went at least 5-1 and the Brewers went 6-0.

heheh....

you guys should look up 'trolling' in the dictionary in reference to my comment about catching dolphin and tuna. Better yet - I'll save you the time and post the link (you mid-westerners.....I forget you don't live near an ocean)

oh and Joe---
Dolphin are perhaps the most beautiful fish in the world when they are in the water and shortly after being caught. Green/Blue/yellow iridescent with tiny blue spots all over them. It's one of those things that everybody should get to experience.
After they die, they become this yellowish-green color which really doesn't do them justice.

the Phillies were 1.5 games ahead of the Mets and 3 games ahead of the Phillies with 7 games to play.

Even the Phillies would find it tough to be three games ahead of themselves :)

Dammit. The thing that gets me is that there were a few times I did that but I was able to catch it before I posted. I guess I couldn't get them all.
