Hello Rusty Kuntz, Goodbye Rusty Cars Posted: June 22, 2008 at 12:15 PM (#2828834)He was very good in 2006 (ERA+ of 128 in 102 relief innings, k/bb ratio of 2.70/1) and decent in 2007 (ERA+ of 124 in 86 innings, but with a drop of k/bb ratio to 1.45/1). Not a star, but certainly a very useful middle reliever.
The problem is 2006 was a bit of a surprise, and likely above what he will do for the rest of his career. I would expect some bounce back though.
He seemed to be a genuine, down-to-earth, likeable and respectful guy, and I became a fan of his that evening. Just wish he could pitch a little better.
He'll always be remembered for the game-winning bomb in San Diego on Aug. 1, 2004.
That series, coming right after the LoDuca trade, was as emotional as I can remember as a Dodgers fan.
