Dodgers Trade Lambo/McDonald for Dotel

Octavio Dotel, 36 years old with 52 baserunners allowed in 40 innings for Pittsburgh this season against 48 strikeouts, comes to Los Angeles as the Dodgers give up on James McDonald and minor-league outfielder Andrew Lambo.

The Dodgers acquired a mediocre reliever, the type they could get on August waivers and gave up two guys who looked promising at not too long ago. McDonald may be as good a pitcher as Dotel is right now already. I went to high school with Lambo so I’m sad to see him leave even if he hasn’t been hitting like he was supposed to.

I am highly upset with Ned Colletti right now.

Just in case there's anybody left who hasn't seen it yet.

Looks like they traded a future middle reliever and fourth outfielder to me.

In Pittsburgh-ese that translates as "3rd starter" and "cleanup hitter".

I kid, perfectly good trade by the Pirates. McDonald's a gamble but an excellent minor-league K-rate (and good ML one so far) means that he mainly needs to learn control. Lambo doesn't look like much so far but some folks here seem reasonably high on him ... and at 6'3" 190 (according to b-r) he's got plenty of room to fill out and add some power (and just 21). But, true, probably neither is likely to be part of the "next good Pirates team" ... unless maybe they live as long as that 104-year-old Puerto Rican guy.

Dotel flipped for a PTBNL to Colorado. Nice job Pittsburgh.
