DRAFTED: Somerset grad Langfield third-round pick by Reds - Fall River, MA - The Herald News

Although I know quite a bit about the draft process, I experienced the draft from a different perspective this year. A close family friend’s son was pitching for a top Division 1 school in his junior year and was hoping to raise his stock in this year’s draft. Whenever I spoke with his mother she’d fill me in on the process. It was nice to see him do well and see his hard work pay off with a 3rd round selection. It’s sometimes easy to forget how young the draftees are. I was reminded the last few days as I followed the process. Hopefully, he will be able to work out an agreement with the Reds and will go on to have a long healthy, successful career.

[Dan] Langfield said that according to the Major League Baseball’s Collective Bargaining Agreement, the 109th selection is ‘slotted” for $436,000. He could get more or less if he signs with the Reds. “It’s all getting figured out as we speak,” he said. “It’s all getting worked on.”

Congrats to the Langfield family, as Dan signed for slot.
