Drillers spin 10-inning no-hitter, lose

Double-A Tulsa pitched its first no-hitter since 2001 but lost a 1-0 decision to Arkansas on Sunday when Joseph Odom drew a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the 10th inning at Dickey-Stephens Park.

Four pitchers combined on the milestone, but it was the first time a Texas League team spun a no-hitter and lost since July 22, 1939.

The new designated runner rule makes it a lot easier to lose a no hitter. In this case a HBP and two walks did the trick, but a couple of choppers to first would’ve worked just as well.

It just hit me that thanks to the designated runner rule, it would be possible for a minor league pitcher to throw a perfect game and lose. That's both interesting and a travesty.

If you don't pick the guy off second, it's not perfect.

I hadn't really thought of what #1 says. I didn't like this rule to begin with, but now I actively hate it.

Although... I probably hate the hypothetical team that can't score in nine innings for their pitcher throwing a perfect game more. God, those guys suck.
