Duk’: Jimmy Rollins purchases rights to Justin Bieber song

Eenie-Meenie-Abra-Ca-Dabra. We’re all going to DeFrancohell in a handbasket…

Philadelphia Phillies shortstop Jimmy Rollins has decided to enter the music business with someone he can see eye to eye with. Not only financially, but maybe even literally.

Rollins recently purchased a portion of the publishing rights to a few songs, including a stake in “Eenie Meenie,” a tune by fellow pint-sized phenom Justin Bieber and Sean Kingston. He also owns part of a song by Snoop Dogg.

Now, it might seem like a pro ballplayer would know about as much about publishing rights as Bieber knows baseball. But Rollins is actually well versed in a field he hopes to use as another moneymaking route once his playing days are done.

Sounds like we might have a future Bruce Dickinson on our hands.

Wo to you, oh earth and sea. For the devil sends the Beiber with wrath...

Even if it's a moneymaker, I'd end up taking the guilt of helping to unleash teen pop on the world to my grave.

I'm interested in how this works. He has the rights to the first twelve notes or something?

If you have twenty part owners, do you need the approval of all of them to use the song, say for commercial purposes?

Actually, Bieber can sound terrific - if you slow him waaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyy down -

Bieber slowed down 800 %

I would imagine a rights publishing or management company handles that and just sends Rollins a check when the song brings in royalties.

How much would the Leif Garrett song book go for these days? Anyone want to go in halves?

I have a Boba Fett Pez dispenser.

You know what, nevermind.

You'll be sorry. I've been sitting on that powderkeg for 25 years now. Just biding my time.

I don't even think more cowbell would make Justin Bieber cool.

Honestly, I don't even know what Leif Garret sounds like. I was alive during his peak but young enough to be gloriously indifferent to it.

Just as long as Rollins doesn't adopt Bieber's haircut

I'm about halfway through, and I can't stop listening to it. I think I'll loop it.

I think he sounded like Shaun Cassidy. Does that help?

Is he the famous one or is David Cassidy the famous one. I have heard the Partridge Family Cassidy, whichever he may be.

That would be David. Shaun was his brother (half-brother?) and a Hardy Boy. All were relatively dreamy, if my sister's Tiger Beats were to be believed.

I liked the Hardy Boys when I was a kid. I think it came on right before The Gong Show. Nostalgia...attacking...all...vital...organs... Must. Complete. Star Wars. Presto Magix canteen scene...
