Edwin Jackson signed with the A’s and could tie Octavio Dotel’s 13-team record

As of the end of the 2017 season, he’d played for 12 in 15 years—one off Octavio Dotel’s record of 13. And finally, on Wednesday, we learned that Jackson had signed with his 13th organization:

It’s only a minor-league deal, but if things go well Jackson could play for an AL West team for the first time. He is 34, and had been starting games for the Syracue Chiefs until opting out of his deal a week ago.

Why on earth is he still starting? He may have a decade of LOOGY work in front of him if he wants it.

Edwin Jackson is righthanded.

Um.

Sounds like he didn't want it enough.

Then his left arm is rested. He could have two decades of LOOGY work.

Rooting for this to work out for at least a few MLB starts... and yes, pretty sure Ejax getting two more stops in the bigs is the dumbest thing I've ever rooted for.

And he should start working on throwing left handed right away.

I was thoroughly disappointed when Bruce Chen found some stability in KC. With 10 teams through his age 32 season, and as a lefthander, I thought he had a chance to take the record to some pretty crazy heights.

I am shocked Edwin Jackson has never played for the Reds. He would be their #2 starter!

This one made me LOL. Well played.

I went back and looked up Dotel's time with the A's and was shocked to see a 115 ERA+ and a 1.21 WHIP and a combined 1.2 WAR over two seasons.

All I can remember about him is that he SUCKED and had about 250 blown saves. Memory can be funny.

This is called the Latroy Hawkins paradigm.

All I remember about Dotel is that he was waiting in the bullpen with his hands on his hips while Kenny Rogers walked Andruw Jones with the bases loaded in Game 6 of the 1999 NLCS. Not that I'm bitter or anything.

Also the Armando Benitez Effect. He always blows saves in big situations, because a big situation is retroactively defined as whenever he blows a save.
