EN: Teaching “Baseball” To The Nazis

A weltanschauung of Wally Schang, if you will.

Frequent Spielberg collaborating producer Gerald R. Molen is developing Gary W. Moore’s sports drama “Playing With the Enemy: A Baseball Prodigy, a World at War, and a Field of Broken Dreams” via WhiteLight Entertainment reports Variety.

Molen has optioned Moore’s recently published nonfiction book, based on his father’s experiences during World War II. WhiteLight is fully financing the project, which is set to start shooting in February.

After being drafted by the Brooklyn Dodgers as a 15-year-old prodigy in 1940, Gene Moore joined the Navy and was sent on a secret mission to guard German POWs during which he taught enemy soldiers how to play baseball.

Right. Hank Greenberg was the first MLB player and among the first drafted for training and reported in May, 1941.

He's referring to the major league draft, which this excerpt claims was the means by which the Dodgers acquired Gene Moore, as well as the draft for the service.
