Eric Langill, Mets bullpen catcher, charged with DUI in St. Lucie County

I can hear the “LANGILL DRINKS LIKE A FISH!” heckle already.

New York Mets bullpen catcher Eric Langill, 32, was charged with DUI in a single-car rollover at a traffic circle Sunday night, according to sheriff’s reports.

According to law enforcement reports, tire marks indicate that the white Honda Accord turned hard to the right as it approached the intersection, causing the car to go over a curb and hit a street sign and concrete fountain at the center of the traffic circle. That caused the car to flip upside down.

A witness, who lives nearby, and a friend were unable to open the driver’s door. But they got Langill, of Canada, out through a passenger door, according to reports.

Langill attempted to leave the scene on foot and was stopped by the witnesses, according to the reports.

A deputy quoted Langill as initially saying the accident occurred because a car cut him off as he was going home from a bowling alley.

These arrests have become almost as common as the "best shape of his life" articles in the past few spring trainings.

No, not Langill!

He's a bullpen catcher. If he doesn't drink, he remembers that.

Mets doctors diagnosed it as a case of the vapours.

Home from a bowling alley? Pretty clear what needs to be said...

Now we got a nice, quiet little beach community here, and I aim to keep it nice and quiet. So let me make something plain. I don't like you sucking around, bothering our citizens, Langill. I don't like your jerk-off name. I don't like your jerk-off face. I don't like your jerk-off behavior, and I don't like you, jerk-off. Do I make myself clear?

At some point MLB needs to start coming down hard on the DUIs. It is well past time.

TURN RIGHT NOW!!!

Man! That Ryan O'Reily sure gets around. I thought he only did that for Allstate commercials.

Hard to see why it's any of MLB's business, unless he was driving the team bus at the time.

Hasn't stopped MLB before

MLB is too busy cracking down on rally squirrels, and confiscating September 11 FDNY caps, to worry about something that is never going to end badly or hurt the sport's image.

But they got Langill, of Canada,

Has "bullpen catcher" been added to the list of jobs Americans won't do?

The Mets are swiftly becoming the South Carolina or Florida of baseball.

It's their business because his problem got the company's name splashed all over the papers in a negative light.

Bud Selig carries a lot of water in this town, Langill; you don't carry s***.

Smart guy, even when drunk. If it was single car there's no hit-and-run, so any penalty for leaving the scene is likely less than the DWI.

So that I can get a better handle on your point of view, allow me to ask: Exactly how should MLB start coming down hard on DUIs? Are you suggesting fines? Suspensions? Bans? What specific actions do you believe MLB should be taking with regard to personnel convicted of driving under the influence?

that campaign is great.

i think this is a funny campaign too, but some of the other entries aren't quite as good.

And the movement to bring back bullpen cars suffers yet another setback.

I think a suitable punishment would be to make offenders work as the bullpen catcher for the Mets.

St Lucie sounds eerily like St Louis, has anyone asked TLR's opinion?

It had to be done.
