ESPN Chicago: Cubs sign Chad Tracy to minor league deal

Removing my glasses, pinching the bridge of my nose between my thumb and forefinger, eyes closed, nodding…

As first reported by ESPNChicago.com on Tuesday, Chad Tracy signed a one-year, minor league deal with the Cubs. He will have an opportunity to earn more if he makes the major league roster out of spring training.

Also, in a huge shocker, the Cubs have avoided going to arbitration with Sean Marshall, who will make $950K next season.

I like the Tracy signing, as I liked the Nady signing yesterday. Hendry appears to have delegated the GM duties to his more intelligent pet chimp this week, with favorable results.

Perhaps that's because Nady is listed on B-R as Tracy's # 1 comp through age 29. #2 is Todd Hollandsworth. #3 is Milton Bradley. I'm sensing a trend.

Doesn't he kinda do what Micah Hoffpaiur already does?

The Nady signing I like. Tracy, not so much. He hasn't hit a lick in years, even against RHP. If he could play 3B decently he would be a more interesting player, but as a LF/RF/1B, blecch.

The Cubs definitely need a good left-handed hitter off the bench, and I think Hendry is picking the last meat off of the wing bones here.

Tracy is one of those guys who always seemed to rake against Cubs pitching, regardless of how he was performing in other games.
