ESPN: Gallo: Worried About Ballpark Hygiene? Drink Beer.

By now you have likely heard about the snow-cone vendor at Minute Maid Park who took his snow cones with him into a stadium bathroom stall while attending to his waste-making needs – or, as Houston’s Channel 2 news reporter Bill Spencer referred to it: “Knocking it out, taking the Browns to the Super Bowl.” Yes, the vendor’s actions were so deplorable it made someone think of the Cleveland Browns.

If only this was an isolated incident. Unfortunately, a 2011 review of MLB stadium food inspection records by Business Insider found violations in every venue except the Rogers Centre—and that’s probably just because Canadian health inspectors are too polite to cite anyone for violations.
. . .
Research done by the website UFE.com—that stands for Urine Feces Everywhere; yes, they do the Lord’s work—found that 8 percent of female fans at Wrigley Field didn’t wash their hands after using the restroom and 79 percent of male fans didn’t do so. Go Cubs!
. . .
Our only savior may be beer. Beer, which will make you not care about the viral sea around you. Beer, which maybe has enough alcohol in it to kill all the bacteria attacking your body.

Left out most of the gory details out of consideration for the squeamish, but you can RTFA, if you dare.

Confirmed. Eat food before devouring article.

“Vermin” and “filth flies” were spotted at Yankee Stadium

Hey, that's no way to talk about Red Sox fans.

People are so freaking paranoid about germs. Your average baseball stadium is about 1000000 times more hygenic than a victorian hospital. Chillax, people.

I use that same logic when feeding my kids chips and cookies all day!

"Not healthy?? You think we evolved to subsist on the FDA pyramid? Hell no! Give any race of proto-humans a diet of cookies and chips and they'd conquer the world!"*

*As long as they're lemon cookies.

79%??? That seems completely crazy. I wouldn't believe 79% of men don't wash their hands after peeing in their own bathrooms, much less in a public place where everyone can see them.

People who drink two or three beers a day get less sick than those who abstain.

#5. I would think the number is higher in a stadium bathroom than one at home because:

What does it matter, as soon as you get out, you're going to be covered with fecal germs.
My wife isn't here, I don't know these people. #### them.

Too be fair, I wouldn't want to eat in a Victorian hospital either.

Well, every man here has been in more than enough public restrooms to be able to answer the question without needing outside "research." Do four out of every five people walk out without washing their hands? I sure don't think so.

(Also, I wonder if writers at Urine Feces Everywhere put it on their resumes.)

I'd rather use my pockets than touch the handle of a sink faucet. If there's sensors, then maybe we'll talk. At least a courtesy rinse for the benefit of onlookers.

If I've felt any foreign splashback during the process, obviously that's a different calculus.

My experience is that at least three out of four guys don't wash their hands before leaving public bathrooms, higher than that if you count the "courtesy rinse" #11 alluded to as not washing hands (as well you should).

I've come to the conclusion that my hands are completely sensor-resistant. I wave my damn hands under those things like a college kid trying to distract a free throw shooter and I can't draw a drop of water.

Wash your hands before you pee so that all of your body remains clean.

Now, Kids, While Your Mother's Gone, I Don't Want To Have To Wash Any Dishes, So From Now On, Drink Straight From The Faucet Or Milk Carton, And We'll Eat While Standing Over The Sink Or Toilet.

I went to college at New Mexico State, an hour away from the Mexican border, so we would go to Juarez to drink and party. After about 10 tequila shooters and beers, nothing tasted better than the sandwiches we would get at Fred's Rainbow Bar. I now shudder to think what might have been in them.

NMSU? Hah, me too! Looking back, I'm really shocked I never got into any serious trouble in Juarez. Man, what a dump.

By my observation, at certain public places - mid-scale and up restaurants, museums, office buildings etc. - way more than 20% wash their hands.

At sporting events? 20% sounds high to me.
