1. Exploring Leftist Conservatism since 2008 (ark..) Posted: December 04, 2007 at 11:30 AM (#2633482)For An average RFer's decline phase.
What do you suppose Dayton Moore is thinking...
Gathright to Florida makes sense, but the Marlins seem to be intent on having trade rumors about acquiring centerfielders every year, without ever acquiring one.
There have been Gathright to Texas rumors for SS Joaquin Arias.
But if the O's had signed Guillen, where would they play Darin Erstad?
I'm not thrilled with the deal but I can't figure out what Moore's other options for left field could have been. Finding mediocre short-term solutions for significant holes isn't the worst way to move toward .500 while developing the young players that might actually contend for something someday.
Deal is $33.6 million, not $36 million.
Kansas City is also talking to free agent center fielder Andruw Jones and has said that the deal with Guillen will not put an end to those talks.
Saving the money to sign draft picks, improve scouting, etc. might have been a viable option, but the Royals at some point have to win a few more games to avoid the stigma, which does have an economic effect, of being one of the worst teams in baseball history over a several year span.
So have they just decided that DeJesus will never be completely healthy?
Saving the money to sign draft picks, improve scouting, etc. might have been a viable option
And all accounts say they are actually doing both. Baseball is awash in cash.
I assume it's more that they've decided (learned?) that DeJesus and Teahen are all they have to trade who will return something useful.
And that both have such similar skill sets, it doesn't make sense to have both.
