ESPN: Szymborski: Bounceback candidates for 2012 (INSIDER)

When someone does a lot of work with projections and makes a lot of predictions, one of the hardest things to get used to is the amount of times you’ll get things completely wrong. Every year, there are a handful of players for whom events don’t just even out and end up missing their projections by a mile. There are a lot of reasons for a player to be disappointing, from mechanical flaws to injuries to the most frustrating reason, “dunno.”

Looking back at the 2011 ZiPS projections, we thought we’d take a look at who failed to meet their projections by the biggest margins, examine what went wrong and look ahead to the 2012 season.

Link is to itself, instead of to ESPN article.

Link is bad. Only reopens this page, not the ESPN page.

Can someone please explain the purpose of these "URL helper" sites? Dan is using one ("bit.ly"), which is why I'm asking. Do they also provide revenue to someone for click-thrus?

They're mostly for twitter, which has a character limit, and you dont want a 85 charachter URL taking it all up.

I like Heyward and Jimenez' chances to bounceback to previously established levels the most on that list.

I just find them convenient since the URLs are shorter. Plus, something on twitter, you can see how many times people linked it, which gives me an idea of what kind of stuff I write my twitter followers (and BTF readers) like more - I pitch 75% of my article topics, and I like to try to give ESPN readers things that they feel are holes in the coverage.

Its like you're speaking directly to me (and also my fantasy team)! Thank you Dan!

Dan

I hope you are not projecting a bounce back for Casey McGehee

These were the 10 guys that missed their projections the most on the downside. Well, 9 of them - Lackey got edited out since I addressed 2013 (have him at right around 5.00 in 120ish innings in 2013).
