ESPN: Szymborski: Midseason Playoff Projections (INSIDER)

After an interminable two days without baseball, we finally got back into business with a full slate of games Friday. The All-Star break is the traditional halfway point in baseball, though not quite the mathematical one, so what better time to calculate some updated projections? As in previous projection runs, all standings were projected a million times, using a Monte Carlo simulation along with the ZiPS projection system.

With the trade deadline looming, two wins represents a rough gauge of what acquiring a star would net a team and one win about what a team can gain by bringing in an above-average player.
