ESPN: Will Rhymes OK after passing out

Scary moment, but…

Rhymes said it was the first time he has passed out.

“Hopefully it’s my last,” he said. “I told them I was Batman, just to mess with them.”

Will Rhymes is my hero.

That's good news. That was pretty scary last night.

I feel like I have heard this explanation before, but I can't recall- what is happening in the body when it passes out due to pain? That seems like it's what happened here, right?

I think shock. Body shuts down to protect itself.

I'm not a doctor (and I don't play one on TV!), but I think it has to do with the sudden huge rush of endorphins.

I had this happen in a softball game after dislocating a finger and having it popped back in. Like Rhymes, it didn't hit until about a minute after the incident. Glad to hear he's okay.

The sound the ball make hitting his arm sounded like a ball hitting a bat. I'm amazed the arm wasn't broken.

The jackass exposed his family to the Joker and Penguin's wrath. Good job, #######.

Yeah, I felt pretty bad. When it happened I just off my couch screaming that it was a foul ball, how could the ump not hear that clearly hit the bat, etc...then I saw a replay.

That boy drank his milk when his mom told him too.

95 mph fastball to the forearm/elbow or 60 mph fastball to the groin. Discuss.

What's to discuss? Forearm, then groin, then elbow. Duh.

Will Rhymes is white?!?

Apparently Will and Busta aren't even related.

He is not related to Busta.

I'd be more surprised by the headline "Will Smith Rhymes OK".

Hey props to George Hendrick for catching him. You dont here much about this former player as he was always something of an enigma. But usually gets good marks from people who met him.

I'm not a doctor either, but I'd guess he had a vasovagal reaction, most likely caused by the high level of pain. Heart rate and blood pressure go down, the brain doesn't get enough oxygen, and you faint very briefly.

I can't recall ever passing out. Getting concussed, that's another thing. Passing out kind of terrifies me, I'm not a fan of my body doing things I don't consciously OK.

That's one more thing than he caught the entire time he was in Pittsburgh.

Glad Rhymes is OK.

I once did, solo in a T-37 at 15,000 feet. Pulled too many G's too quickly and went unconscious. Pretty damned scary, considering I could have killed myself. That was definitely one time when I took a marble from my luck bag and put it into my experience bag.

I will say right now you will be the only one here with that experience/luck.

That is what happened to George W Bush when he ate the pretzel, right?

I can't recall ever passing out.

I'm no fighter pilot, but I passed out once after giving blood on an empty stomach. I got up from the bed, walked over to the table with food and water, and started pouring myself a glass. The last thing I remember was passing the pitcher and my cup to the woman standing nexting to me and saying "You better hold these". I woke up a minute or so later on my back on the floor, covered in cold towels with the whole clinic staring at me.

I'm really glad that I give the double red blood cell ALYX donation. It makes me feel way less woozy since I keep everything but the RBCs I'm donating. I feel tired for a day or so afterwards, but I avoid the feeling like crap I remember from back when I used to give whole blood.

But yeah, your experience is exactly why I wouldn't want to pass out.
