ESPN:AP: DEA investigating teams’ doctors

SAN DIEGO—The Drug Enforcement Administration said Tuesday it is investigating doctors affiliated with the San Diego Chargers and San Diego Padres to verify the accuracy of controlled substance inventories, records, reports and other documents required to be kept under the Controlled Substances Act.

Agency spokeswoman Amy Roderick said 10 administrative inspection warrants were served within San Diego County, including at the offices of the Chargers and Padres, where records and inventories were checked.

There currently are no administrative charges, criminal charges or indictments pending for any of the physicians or pharmacies where the warrants were served, she said.

I'm not sure that this is a prudent use of scarce government funds given that it requires deficit spending.

I have a DEA license (Schedule 2-5), this all sounds like routine diversion control stuff that all license holders go through periodically.

I'm pretty sure the San Diego Chicken has been roiding for years. Look at the size of his head!

That sounds like the sort of thing a juicer would say.

It's stimulus.

If making my own smoothies is wrong, I don't wanna be right!

Seriously though, from what I can tell this isn't "news" at all. Anyone who has a schedule license knows that they are subject to surprise inspection from the DEA at any time.

dittoes--I get unannounced inspections/inventory checks both from my University and from the Feds--it's no BFD as long as your records are in order

Absolutely true; my wife is the office manager for a physician and they have probably had 4 or 5 surprise DEA inspections in the past 8 or 9 years.

if you take one pill out of your prescription container, and say, put it in a plastic baggy to take with you, you have committed a felony.

If you get one of those "pill a day" plastic containers at the Drugstore with a separate compartment for each day of the week, to remind you to take your prescriptions properly, the moment you fill it you have committed 7 felonies.

If you have an excessive number of subscriptions for controlled substances, you will be prosecuted as if you were a drug dealer, the assumption being you could only need that amount of a controlled substance to sell illegally. Of course, unless your name is Rush Limbaugh.

Go DEA, go.

This is probably as much for painkillers as for any potential PEDs, no? Especially after the Saints mini-scandal.

I have all sorts of subscriptions to controlled drugs - Fentanyl Digest, The Diazepam News, Modern Morphine, you name it.

By the way, anyone care to guess what the list price is for 10mL of morphine?

2 dollars
