Not sure what Jim Bowden was doing here.  Of the three prospects traded, he is left with the worst one.  Coleman and Pena for Henson might have been fair, but Coleman and Henson for Pena is just plain weird.  More links to follow.

Another aspect of this deal involves Wily Pena's contract, which stipulated that he had to be put on the Yankees' 25-man roster by either 2002 or 2003 (I can't remember which) or else he becomes a free agent. With his lack of plate discipline, he won't be anywhere near ready for the major leagues in 1 to 2 years. Perhaps the Reds will find a way to eliminate that clause from his contract.
