And throws some well-aimed Gammo-ray bursts toward New York.
Q: Who do you like the best in the National League?
A: I like the Braves. I think they’re the best team I’ve seen this year. I like Arizona and the Dodgers a lot, and the Cubs and Brewers. We’ll see with the Mets. They’ve been beaten up, so we really haven’t seen them yet. I’m not sure they’re as good as people in New York think they are. I actually think what you’re seeing is four teams can win the West in the National League. Three teams can win the East in the National League. The trend towards equality has been pretty strong the last couple of years.
Q: What’s the best part about your job?
A: I just enjoy the players. I really do. I enjoy being around them and knowing them. I love to watch great players practice. A guy like Derek Jeter. Just to watch him practice, is he a great-skilled player? No. But he works so hard at it, and he’s so diligent. That’s a lot of the fun of a job, too.

Obviously the glove is highly overrated, but I'd still say he's one of the better hitters in major league baseball.
The Cardinals gave Gammons an NRI?
That really depends on what you mean by particurlarly fast. I mean, he wasn't fast last year, but over his career, Jeter is absolutely one of the fastest guys in getting down the line from the right handed side of the batter's box. He may not be a burner like Reyes or Ellsbury, but he was for most of his, career, a very fast guy.
