HOW WILL THE ANGELS LOSE TODAY?!

Probably not as spectacularly as yesterday

Ed McMahon: “How spectacular was it?”
   4. Don August(us) Cesar Geronimo Berroa Posted: May 24, 2019 at 03:05 PM (#5845450)
1.047 slg% against. That is quite spectacular. 16 h, 4 2b, 8 hr. That is more hits than Joey Votto has had so far in May, as he continues to de-evolve into Chris Davis.

Cubs have 3 HRs thru 3, with the wind blowing in.
   6. Don August(us) Cesar Geronimo Berroa Posted: May 24, 2019 at 03:12 PM (#5845456)
holy cow, Votto got a hit! A double, no less!

Not watching, so when checking the box, I assumed it was blowing out crazy like it was yesterday.

Heyward isn't having much success on the bases over the last 24 hours.

6 it was a bloop that just found a nice spot. Wasn't squared at all or hit hard.

“I want to support these places that are active in their communities, that are trying to be supportive and inclusive spaces for their communities.”

Moses, not surprising. For most of this month Votto has looked like he has just picked up a baseball bat for the first time. Have never seen him this bad.

Ohhhhh, this bullpen.

Is Russell getting booed yet?
   13. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: May 24, 2019 at 05:25 PM (#5845491)
I got a sinking feeling on that foul from Votto that was nearly strike three
   14. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: May 24, 2019 at 05:27 PM (#5845492)
Suarez and Puig just murder the cubs

Austin Riley today became the third member of the "5-HR, 12-RBI in first 9 MLB games" club, joining Taylor Teagarden (wtf) and Trevor Story.

Boo birds for Russell.
   17. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: May 24, 2019 at 05:41 PM (#5845498)
Well that was quite the squander given they were up 4-0 with their most efficient starting pitcher on the mound.

The marquee matchup of the decade has started in our Nation's Crapital: Pablo López faces off against Kyle McGowin.

Mets booth welcomes Doug Flynn - an all-glove, no-bat 2B who arrived more than 40 years ago in the infamous Tom Seaver trade to Cincinnati.

he insists that broadcaster Keith Hernandez in the Hall of Fame - prompting Keith to ask, "Doug, you can stick around for another inning, can't you?"
Flynn replies: "Did I say it right, Keith?"

that's comedy gold right there, Jerry.

was interested to hear Flynn say that the leftover Mets - Koosman, Matlack, Grote, etc - treated the new Reds very well upon arrival (Pat Zachry, Steve Henderson, and Dan Norman also were in the deal).

finally, turns out Flynn is the only Met to ever hit 3 triples in one game (he did it in Montreal).

he's no Khris Davis, but at the moment Todd Frazier is hitting .213 for a third straight season

Xander Bogus FTW !

Really ? The Mets don't have a rightfielder who can throw out someone on a shallow fly ball ?

Dis Gust Ing

Every random the Mets have added this week has already hit a clutch homer.
   27. Davo (Love Won The Battle Of Stalingrad) Posted: May 24, 2019 at 09:35 PM (#5845536)
The Twins have already hit more home runs this year than the pennant-winning 2014 Royals did all season.
   28. Howie Menckel Posted: May 24, 2019 at 09:46 PM (#5845538)
The Mets had 9 players in franchise history homer in their first AB.

Robinson Cano did it, too, on Opening Day.

This week, so did Rajai Davis - and now, Aaron Altherr.

so that's 12

Doug Flynn - an all-glove, no-bat 2B

I know that's was his rep, because why would you play a guy who was such a terrible hitter? But he wasn't all that good. Or even good at all.

No. BRef has him -20 Rfield for his career. Mark Belanger was all glove, no bat. Doug Flynn just sucked.
   31. Misirlou doesn't live in the restaurant Posted: May 24, 2019 at 10:21 PM (#5845543)
In the 70's, it was just assumed if a middle infielder couldn't hit, he must be a glove wizard. Manny Trillo is another good example. He won only 3 GGs, but his rep was better than that. He was -7 Rfield. Johnny DiSaster, he of the 60 OPS+ was -61 Rfield.

bottom of the 9th, cards-braves. there has not been a walk issued all night.

cards have still managed to look below average, they are losing 5-2.
   33. phredbird Posted: May 24, 2019 at 11:01 PM (#5845548)

bader strikes out looking to end it ... jeez.
   34. Bote Man Posted: May 24, 2019 at 11:02 PM (#5845549)
I predicted a slugfest in D.C. and they sure have delivered. Sean Doolittle has caught Nats bullpen disease, giving up a solo home run on his 1st pitch to Alfaro. Then a couple loud outs, then a base hit. Now the Marlins making noise with 2 outs in the 9th, trailing 12-10.

By some miracle, the Nats win it. Experts baffled!

Griffin Canning is already the best starting pitcher on the Angels.

The Twins will have 112 games left after tonight. Only 23 of them are vs. teams that entered the weekend more than one game above .500.

Pete Alonso, with 17 homers in 50 games to start his major league career. Only Gary Sanchez and Cody Bellinger (19) and Rhys Hoskins and Wally Berger (18) have started better.

Before Derek Holland shut them down in the 8th, Arizona had scored, in order, 1, 2, 2, 3, 3, 3, and 4 runs.
