Fan Wearing LeBron James Heat Jersey Draws Ire of Indians Fans

This could have gotten Mokeski-ugly!

A man wearing a LeBron James Miami Heat jersey was escorted from the Progressive Field bleachers during the sixth inning of the Yankees’ 8-0 win over the Indians Wednesday night.

The fan evidently was heckling fans while wearing the jersey, and when he did it in the bleachers the Cleveland fans responded.

A chant of “Throw him out” rose from the bleachers, with several Cleveland fans spewing verbal venom toward the fan wearing the Heat jersey. When police arrived to escort the fan out of the stands, the crowd cheered. Several Indians fans threw verbal barbs at the fan and his girlfriend, others threw a more liquid form of insult.

The fan seemed unbothered. As he was escorted out by police, he continued to turn and show his Heat jersey to the crowd.

Hit by a beer and escorted by police, sounds like he got off easy.

Who's LeBron James?

The headline makes it sound like he drew their ire for wearing the jersey, rather than for heckling them and generally being a #########.

This fan must be the sporting equivalent of the Westboro Baptist Church...hoping to draw a fight, hoping to win a lawsuit.

Cleveland's fans are even whinier ####### than their team's owners.

I was at Game 4 of the World Series last year and within 5 minutes of sitting in our seats, my buddy (another Yankee fan) and I witnessed the one other Yankee fan we could see in our section get jeered for wearing Yankee gear, then hit in the head by a beer bottle thrown from a few rows away, and then get escorted out by security.

I came in to make the same joke.

Of course, Bernal would have worn the STVM jersey.

And then the Yankees won. So that was awesome.

Yeah, when I go to the Stadium, I don't wear my Red Sox hat, that's for sure.

This guy just seems like an #######, though. It would be one thing if it was baseball -- but this is just asking for it.

The real test would have been if LeBron himself had showed up in the bleachers last night, wearing his Yankees cap. How many thousand fans can one 6'8" workout king fend off with only a small posse to assist him?

So you can get thrown out for other people not liking you?

You can get thrown out for being belligerent and trying to start fights. Alternately, if you succeed in starting a fight and become a victim, you can get escorted out by security which is similar except they let you watch the game somewhere else in the park.

I'm not pro beer throwing or pro beer bottle throwing. This guy sounds like a dick, to say the least. I mean the Indians were not even playing the Marlins (if even that is enough of an excuse to wear a Heat jersey). The only reason why someone would wear a Heat jersey to an Indians game is to be antagonistic and just a turd sandwich.

I think you can be escorted out if they're worried you're going to be injured by a mob.

And you'll never be with that kind of negativity!

If you deliberately incite them, yes.

I've worn Mets apparel at Citizens Bank Park and Dodger Stadium with no real issue. But I've also seen guys in Giants gear stand up in the front of the left field bleachers at Dodger Stadium, point at the front of their jersey, and invite people to throw stuff at them. Those people were rightfully escorted out.

This was definitely a jerk move, but no more so than when King James himself wore the Yankees cap in Cleveland during the Yankees-Indians playoff series.

Why is that a jerk move? Wearing the cap of the team you root for is being a jerk? In my experience if you show up in visiting team apparel and cheer for your team you have no problem, it's when people start taunting that they run into trouble.

Keep checking the Bunning thread. It's only a matter of time before one happens there.
