Fancred Sports : Inside Baseball: Ranking the 29 starters on the trading block

25%?

2) Blake Snell, Rays: The All-Star snub isn’t underappreciated by MLB execs. However, it’s near to impossible to see the Rays moving him. File this under the heading, “Wishful thinking.”
Value: 4 ½ stars. ****1/2. Odds to go: 3-1 (25 percent).

25) Bartolo Colon, Rangers: He looked better earlier, before he turned 45. Still, a marvel.

Disagree. Big Sexy only looks better as he ages.

Is it me or does it feel like this is a buyer's market for SP trades?

It just feels like this an unusually good assortment of likely availables and there is a price point out there for anyone who needs one... both in terms of dollars AND what you've got in the system to deal.

Unlike prior deadlines where you got bidding wars over a limited number of available guys - seems like there's a good half dozen guys who could fit atop a rotation, shore up the middle, AND just give you a reliable 4th/5th guy.

If I'm looking to an SP - I think I'm probably going to wait until the last minute (or be rather picky about my deal).

Most of the top names on that list are guys with multiple years of control left and while some trades will likely happen, pick any one and the odds are strong that he stays put. Teams aren't going to move DeGrom or Snell unless they are blown away by a mega-offer. When you look at the rentals, the guys who are almost certainly going to be moved, it's not as impressive.

Look back at the 2015 deadline where you had Price and Cueto certain to be moved as rentals, and a bunch of other guys also on the market. This list isn't that strong.

this site used to be "fanrag" until someone figured out that wasn't the ideal name.

one wag pictured one spouse asking the other if they were ready to head out for dinner - only to have the other sitting at a computer saying, "Not yet - I'm on the rag!"

the article is by BBTF fave Jon "mystery team" Heyman.

TAMPA BAY RAYS FACT:

They are 45-32 since April 15th.

25) Bartolo Colon, Rangers: He looked better earlier, before he turned 45.
Does he mean, like, 20 years earlier?

22) Ivan Nova, Pirates: Solid mid-rotation starter has had his moments. Contract is no bargain, however.

Huh? Why the shot at Nova's contract?

It's got one-and-a-half years remaining at $8.5M per, which seems perfectly reasonable to me. It's also cheaper than the deals of the starters ranked next to him on the list: Estrada, #21, is getting $13M this year, while Santana, #23, is getting $13.5M this year and $14M next.
