Fanrag: Alex Cobb Destinations

Gotsulias can tie him to three clubs.

Plenty of teams need a solid starter but won’t break the bank — Cobb fits the bill. He’s also younger than some of the other more expensive free agents such as Yu Darvish and Jake Arietta, which makes him an attractive target. MLB Trade Rumors sees Cobb getting a four-year deal worth $48M.

I'm now at the point where I'll be surprised if he doesn't end up on the Cubs. Sounds like that's where he'd like to go, and both Maddon and Hickey sound like they're pushing for him. The Cubs have been rumored to be interested in him for years.

It's "Arrieta," not "Arietta." This is close to joining the pantheon of "McGuire," "Ripkin," and "Farve."

#2, McCutcheon is top of the list

Cincinatti.

When I was working for the A's a zillion spring trainings ago, I had to break it to a t-shirt vendor that McGwire's name was misspelled.

Greg Maddox on line 2.

^^^^ Argh! Nice. I KNEW I was forgetting one, and that's the one!

Or Doug Mientkiewicz. I mean, come on people.

Or Doug Mientkiewicz. I mean, come on people.

Doesn't really count though, I mean, come on no one can spell that correctly off the top of their head. I reckon even Doug was about 10 before he got it right.

Doug has been in my kitchen

Doesn't Alex Cobb need to end up in Cobb County?
   12. McCoy Posted: November 14, 2017 at 07:49 AM (#5575759)
No love for Ryan Sandberg or Gary Templeton? You young whippersnappers and your no sense of history.
   13. dlf Posted: November 14, 2017 at 07:57 AM (#5575761)
Poor Greg Nettles. Historically underrated still.
   14. McCoy Posted: November 14, 2017 at 08:03 AM (#5575762)
Along with Greg Biggio.
   15. Nasty Nate Posted: November 14, 2017 at 08:45 AM (#5575773)
On the other hand, Alex Cobb has the easiest name to spell this side of Joe Smith.

Poor Greg Nettles. Historically underrated still.

Not as underrated as Craig Nettles, who apparently doesn't even rate a mention!

Or Ryan Sandburg, the poet laureate of the Mark McGuire All-stars.
   18. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: November 14, 2017 at 09:14 AM (#5575779)
Kerry Woods was the clear favorite of women who owned pink Cubs hats.
   19. Spahn Insane Posted: November 14, 2017 at 09:17 AM (#5575784)
Also, Kerry Woods objects to this flagrant snub.

EDIT: Gah! Damn you, ElRoy. Frosty beverage of choice.

Kerry Woods was the clear favorite of women who owned pink Cubs hats.

They're actually quite informed on the minutiae of not-so-recent Cubs history, and were merely pining for Gary Woods. Because who wouldn't really.
   21. McCoy Posted: November 14, 2017 at 09:40 AM (#5575796)
Raphael Palmeiro wants to know what he needs to do to make that All-Star team. Cal Ripkin was the Iron Man of the AS group.

I can't be the only one who thought about one name in this thread: What's wrong with that? Ohhhhh....

(Mine was Templeton)
   23. The Interdimensional Council of Rickey!'s Posted: November 14, 2017 at 10:09 AM (#5575822)
Cobb County Braves are a pretty solid theory. They need a quality veteran to anchor that rotation and push Julio Teheran down to #2, and R.A. Dickey isn't coming back.
   24. Infinite Yost (Voxter) Posted: November 14, 2017 at 10:21 AM (#5575835)
"Farve."

This one is is own damn fault. He mispronounces his own name.

I am really tired of this anti-Polish undercurrent that pervades primer! Once we get that screen door fixed on the submarine, just you wait...
   26. eric Posted: November 14, 2017 at 11:28 AM (#5575891)
Greg Maddox on line 2.

He and Roger Clemons would form quite a rotation.

You mean eastern Germany, right?
   28. Spahn Insane Posted: November 14, 2017 at 12:28 PM (#5575940)
This thread reminds me of the pre-registration 2003 Cubs postseason threads, featuring some of the finest typo-ridden work of the late, great Jack Vincennes on a bender: Kerru, Sabto, Sintra, antbody....

Ah, memories.

Oh, we're playing by Hapsburg/Prussian rules, are we.... like I said, all hail the anti-Polish primer undercurrent!
   30. Edmundo got dem ol' Kozma blues again mama Posted: November 14, 2017 at 06:13 PM (#5576290)
Cole Hammels would like to join your team as the lefty ace.

Nettles is the one for me. That first name should either be Greg or Craig, not GRAIG dammit!

And of course looking that up and clearly remembering him and his extraordinary fielding in the '78 Series, seeing he is 73! years old, makes me feel really, really old.
