Fenway Organist Grateful for Gig

As Yankees right-hander Michael Pineda began to walk off the field on April 23, 2014, after being ejected when pine tar was found on his neck, a song played by Red Sox organist Josh Kantor reverberated throughout Fenway Park.

Trying to find the perfect song for the moment, Kantor began to play “Suspicious Minds” by Elvis Presley.

Kantor’s quick thinking and ability to play songs from multiple eras and genres has made him a fan favorite since becoming the organist in 2003. He’s yet to miss a home game, playing a total of 1,226 straight games.

I love these little behind the scenes stories.  Good stuff here.

His Twitter feed is kinda fun.

I wonder if the Wrigley organist's perpetual choice of The Godfather theme for Ron Santo would go over well today.

The Wrigley organist really needs to expand his repertoire. "Down on the Corner" *every* time there are runners on first and third, or "You May Be Right" for just about every replay challenge (I think there might be one other song he uses occasionally) gets pretty old.

I would love to hear an organist play "Should I Stay or Should I Go" after a few pickoff throws.

The Atlanta organist is amazing.

Most obscure: for Cameron Rupp, he or she played "Go Down Moses." Ferris Bueller fans will get the reference.

Most fun: alternating between "Major Tom" and "Pinball Wizard" for Tommy Joseph.

This sentence works for the basketball team as well -- the amazing Sir Foster.

One of my favorites at Fenway is if the catcher takes one in the cup they play Anita Ward's disco classic "Ring My Bell."

Wait, they now have women catchers?

Seems like something from Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat would be a good one to throw in the mix there as well.

Some friends tweeted for him to pay Sonic Reducer. He did. After the game he showed them around the stadium. He's my favourite member of the Red Sox organization.
