First pitch astray at Fenway | Red Sox

This first pitch is a bit nutty. Sorry, it had to be said.

As I said at the time: that was awful, and hilarious, and awful.

Very funny, but still not as good as the original.

Ball one...or is it two...?

RMc - 2 balls, 1 strike.

You can see the Fenway creature calling time right as he delivers the pitch---I think that's what threw him off.

Primey.

The last pitch was a pretty intense one, too.

Incidentally, the first pitch was thrown by a cancer survivor. He sung the anthem as a little kid and famously (around Boston anyway) ran the bases after doing it as a 7 year old. The year before that he had been in a wheelchair so it was a pretty emotional moment.

The guy throwing the pitch looks a little bit like Joba Chamberlin (in the face).

Even better, he's a pitcher on his high school team. His twitter comments (at the end of the video clip) show that he's got a pretty good sense of humour about the whole thing.

What's the over/under on text messages when he got back to his seats from friends/teammates absolutely roasting him for that pitch?

Well, why wouldn't he! He didn't get hit in the low stomach. It seemed like everyone involved could have had a little more concern for the guy who got hit.

His photo of the ball coming at him was great though!

The Washington Post's headline:

"A ceremonial first pitch misses the strike zone and hits the man zone"

I laugh every time I watch it. It's like "Footbal in the groin" on the Simpsons.

Those female MLB Network anchors are laughing just a little too hard.

Thus begins the Boston legend of "the bloody sack."

In best Bob Uecker voice...

JUUUUST..a bit outside.

If you are too young to remember Uecker, well then...you suck.

Oh man. When did he die?
   22. VCar Posted: August 18, 2017 at 08:58 AM (#5515994)
He didn't -- he's still doing some Brewer games. I flipped on MLB Network the other day and they had the Brewers game with Bob announcing. Immediately recognized the voice and it perked up my day. I was at the HOF ceremony the year he went in, and his speech was the best stand-up act I've ever seen.
