Fish Stripes: Florida Marlins 2003 World Series ring up for auction

Florida Marlins team scout Spencer Mills was awarded this championship ring following the South Florida ballclub’s 2003 World Series triumph over the New York Yankees. Several cubic zirconiums and red-colored stones form a baseball motif, atop which rests the gold-colored Marlins emblem. Raised lettering bordering this elaborate presentation proclaims, “WORLD CHAMPIONS.” On one side, “MILLS” and “SCOUT” flank the detailed representation of a World Series trophy; the opposing shank exhibits the series records for each one of the Marlins’ postseason victories, as well as the World Series emblem. Minimum bid $2,500.

Cubic zirconiums? The scouts didn’t get the ones with actual diamonds? Maybe that is normal or it could be that the club was rather cheap, I don’t know.

It's very annoying, I'm less than 10 cards away from completing several sets

Of course even complete I think they are pretty worthless...my brother and I weren't exactly the type to keep our cards in mint condition. We played a couple seasons of laying out the cards on a 2-D field on the floor and made them run around and such. I don't think we actually had a system to decide when a guy would get a hit and when not...pretty much just went by our whims. I recall that once led to a fist fight over my insistance on Dennis Rasmussen throwing a no-hitter. For some reason we called Rasmussen "Deflater Mouse". Can anyone think of why we'd do that? Or were we just being retarded kids?

I have been missing exactly one card - Doug Bird - from my 1981 Topps set for about 18 years now. I wonder if I should bother chasing it down after all this time or I should just leave it incomplete as a commentary on the half-assness of my life.

I thought they already auctioned off everything from that World Series team.

I probably have 7 of the guys you need for the 91 Donruss and Fleer sets. I bought boxes for $2 each on clearance. I agree that they're pretty worthless but I'm of the opinion that baseball card collecting is more fun when they're worthless.

No but the show is my all time favourite cartoon show.

I'm sure that's the connection...I just can't think of why I singled out Rasmussen for the nickname...I guess the Padre colours match The Mouse's

Set of 1988 Donruss cards? I'll up the bid to my 1988 Donruss cards plus the other 27 Jose Canseco assorted cards. I'll even throw in the picture sitting in my cube of Canseco that he signed when my parents mailed in the 8x10 with the signed rookie card which I paid for by making my mom breakfast in bed for 2 months!
