Kopech head for TJ surgery. Damn.

Weather geeks (non-Trout division) saying rain should move out of D.C. before Cubs @ Nats game start time, but the Skittles tarp is already on the field so it'll take time to mop up.

Kopech head for TJ surgery. Damn.

Shouldn't affect his acting career.

Kopech head for TJ surgery. Damn.
And here I bet he walked off the mound after giving up back-to-back-to-back homers to the Tigers thinking, "At least this week won't get any worse."

Huge series gets underway in Denver tonight, as the second-place Dodgers try to pick away at the NL West-leading Rockies' game and a half lead. Clayton Kershaw vs. Jon Gray tonight. The Rox are in the lead for the first wild-card slot, but they'd much rather capture their first division title.

Ozuna with his 19th hr of the year, and third in the past three days... Not counting today, he's .323/.368/.525/.893 since August first(106 pa) that is the guy we were hoping to get, and now his power is matching up with his other numbers. (well it's better than what we were expecting, as we would have been happy with .270/.333/.470/.800+
   8. cardsfanboy Posted: September 07, 2018 at 08:10 PM (#5740747)
Ozuna last three games...

2 for 5 with 2 homeruns
4 for 4 (all singles)
2 for 2 tonight (with 2 homeruns)

Ozuna that dude with the ugly yellow armthang ?

That flourescent color Cheater !

Untarped in DC, with Joe Ross on the mound for the 1st time since early July 2017, as he comes back from TJS - hitting 97 MPH in 1st inning.

X, goin' and givin' it to ya.

(And Eck amazed and delighted. Boy, is it good to not have Lyons calling this game!)

Ok, so my personal to-happen list is :

A's win the WEST
Mariners lose to the Yankees in the WC.

World Series : Cardinals vs. Athletics

Winner : Athletics

Now that the Cardinals have moved ahead enough that an A's win won't tie them for second place all time, I would be fine with that.

Cardinals shiting the bed on this one two outs in the bottom of the fourth inning, and the mighty Tigers managed to load the bases and score two runs so far, Shildt, the man with the short hook is trying his damndest to give Gomber a chance to work out of it, but man did that cost us this game right now. Not that I have a problem with the decision, just pointing out, it's the exact same decision that Matheny would have made, and the announcers would have worked him over the coals for it.
   15. The Yankee Clapper Posted: September 07, 2018 at 09:00 PM (#5740775)
Re-tarped in DC, with a heavy line of thunderstorms moving through, although weather app indicates it should be OK afterward. That almost certainly means TJS-returnee Joe Ross is done for the evening after 24 pitches, 1 hit, 1K, no BB. Baby steps.
   16. phredbird Posted: September 07, 2018 at 09:24 PM (#5740786)

great ... i finally tune in, only to find another regression game, and mccarver in the booth.

might have to turn off the sound or something.
   17. phredbird Posted: September 07, 2018 at 09:33 PM (#5740792)
good lord, how did wong get to that ball? great play with the shift on to get martinez with the bases loaded.

victor martinez, that is.
   18. cardsfanboy Posted: September 07, 2018 at 09:35 PM (#5740793)
I just don't get McCarver, when he first got the gig back in St Louis, he was pretty good, he shamed every other announcer for fox sports midwest by doing pre-game studies and creating stories base upon that, and then even adding a few other tidbits..... (Mclaughlin literally likes to brag that Jack Buck took his pre-game notes and threw them away, and pointed out, that the notes is not the game, the game is what is going on....which of course works for the greats...but the lessers need to prepare.... McCarver is an obvious lesser)

So for about 3 or so appearances, McCarver was a breath of fresh air, he refused to diminish the players of today by claiming the players of the past were better, and even complimented them.

after about three series, that all went in the toilet, and he assumed his full on Abe Simpson personality, which doesn't help when you have an incompetent idiot like Dan McLaughlin who does his best Jon Miller impression, where he goes out of his way to encourage the analyst to be stupid. (and yes... I ####### hate Jon Miller..... he sucks ass, he's a great announcer, but he goes out of his way to encourage stupidity...at least he did while on a national broadcast...you cannot find fault with Joe Morgan, and give Miller a pass...... Miller encouraged Morgan...so almost everything Morgan said was because Miller made it easy for him... I have never understood why he gets a pass on this)

And I'm still pretty sure he isn't going to win the gold glove... although it's not particularly close in the NL.
   20. phredbird Posted: September 07, 2018 at 09:37 PM (#5740797)
jose martinez now at bat, and doing the usual irritating bat swinging, timeout calling bs, and strikes out to continue his regression streak ...
   21. The Anthony Kennedy of BBTF (Scott) Posted: September 07, 2018 at 09:40 PM (#5740799)
Good piece of hitting by Kemp. Great swing to hit the go ahead double.
   22. The Yankee Clapper Posted: September 07, 2018 at 09:44 PM (#5740801)
Now looking like the rain in Washington, DC won't let up until after 11:00 PM, or later. Might not get the game in, although this late in the season there are probably no good options - either wait until midnight to play the remaining 7+ innings, or a doubleheader Saturday or Sunday.
   23. phredbird Posted: September 07, 2018 at 09:44 PM (#5740802)
i'm super pissed off that i can't get dodger games on MLBTV. why they are blacking out Palm Springs is beyond me. i'd like to be able to catch them now and then. if vin scully was still calling the games i'd have to think about some serious measures.
   24. The Anthony Kennedy of BBTF (Scott) Posted: September 07, 2018 at 09:58 PM (#5740805)
This team is so stupid good. Great slide, it looked live like he was out by a mile.
   25. phredbird Posted: September 07, 2018 at 10:02 PM (#5740806)

it's over. oh well.
   26. cardsfanboy Posted: September 07, 2018 at 10:04 PM (#5740809)
That was stupid...

For the first time in 15 years, I'm questioning managerial decisions.... not sure we could have won this game, but it was poorly managed to guarantee we don't win.
   27. cardsfanboy Posted: September 07, 2018 at 10:28 PM (#5740814)
I will state, that for the first time in a month, I didn't want to put an icepick in my ears to prevent the over the top worship for Shildt during a Cardinal broadcast...

heck here is a hope that they realize that a manager is just a cog in the machine... although... outside of Edmonds one comment, even with the veteran McCarver.. nobody bothered to question the great Shildt, who lost this game by doing exactly what Matheny would have done, and let Gomber pitch the entire 4th inning.

Congratulations to the Baltimore Orioles, the first team to 100 losses, who hit the milestone in style, succumbing to the Tampa Bay Rays 14-2.

Cubs @ Nats double-header Saturday, 8 September, 2018

13:00 ET gates open to Nats Park

15:05 Game 1 first pitch
??:?? Game 1 ends

+10 minutes Jayson Werth appreciation/booing ceremony

+45 minutes Game 2 first pitch

Tickets for tonight's rainout can not be used for admission Saturday. Only tickets for the regularly scheduled Saturday night game can get into the single-admission double-header on Saturday. To say that there are some angry fans would be a huge understatement.

Tomorrow's forecast promises morning rain, then drying out as the temperature drops through the 60s.

Sunday looks like a guaranteed delayed start. Being the final series between the Cubs and Nats, MLB wants to get these games in any way they can.

Sounds like a class action lawsuit, and I hope they win. That’s awful.
   34. ERROR---Jolly Old St. Nick Posted: September 08, 2018 at 12:37 PM (#5740890)
I doubt they'd have a legal case, since they could presumably get a refund or an exchange for another game, but this is one time where a split admission day-night doubleheader would've made more sense than an old school Bargain Bill. Rain checks were a lot easier to honor to everyone's satisfaction when the average crowd wasn't 30,000 on up and so many tickets weren't sold way in advance.
   35. Bote Man the walk-off king Posted: September 08, 2018 at 01:55 PM (#5740918)
One of the beat reporters tweeted that the CBA allows for only so many split-admission double-headers, so the players had to OK such a schedule. In the end the players agreed on a classic DH. Which I find odd because why wouldn't the players want extra rest between games, especially under these muggy conditions?

They are rolling out the Skittles tarp now. There's a blob of rain moving east, then a few little popcorn cells way west that shouldn't pose too much of a threat. Rain chances fall off precipitously after 15:00 so I wonder how badly they will botch today's go/no-go decision?

Jayson Werth Ring of Honor ceremony to begin 25 minutes after last out of Game 1.

Start of Game 1 Cubs @ Nats delayed by rain.
   37. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: September 08, 2018 at 06:10 PM (#5740978)
On the TV broadcast it looks like they're playing in an empty dome in Washington.
   38. cardsfanboy Posted: September 08, 2018 at 06:53 PM (#5740988)
Bases loaded nobody out, bottom of the first........and a passed ball.
   39. cardsfanboy Posted: September 08, 2018 at 07:29 PM (#5741001)
Cardinal announcers bagging on the Cardinals proclivity to strike out... this series it makes sense...12 innings 18 strikeouts.... McCarver "in a three game series against the Nationals, the Cardinals struck out 22 times.".....

that is well below the major league average I think.
   40. cardsfanboy Posted: September 08, 2018 at 07:42 PM (#5741004)
Now the Cardinal broadcasters have stopped with their non-stop blowing of Shildt, to spend non-stop time bagging on strikeouts....
