Former MLB player Luke Scott fired from Korean team after confrontation with coach

According to reports out of Korea, Scott, who was playing for SK Wyverns, had been placed on reserve due to plantar fasciitis and was not pleased with how the team was managing his injury. After an argument with coach Lee Man-soon in which Scott called the coach a “liar” and “coward,” Scott told reporters the team did not respect his way of handling his physical condition.

Scott, 36, had a .267 batting average and six home runs in 33 games for Wyverns, and he was on the injury list three times.

The dispute raised questions about the cultural differences between Korea and the United States. Lotte Giants pitcher Shane Youman, another former major leaguer, said players should be allowed to speak their minds, although he avoided directly commenting on the Scott incident.

“I’m all for players expressing their feelings towards certain situations if they believe they have a right to. Not just foreign players, but Korean players as well,” Youman said (via the Korea Times). “Baseball has such a long season. Players and coaches are around each other all the time. Things will not always go smoothly. There may be arguments, or mix-ups here and there. At the end of the day, we all know who has the authority, but we are all men, and should be treated and respected as men.”

Thanks, Obama.

I was half-expecting the confrontation to involve firearms.

Man-soon should be the name of a professional wrestler or a gay porn star. Or both. I don't really follow either industry.

I expect Scott to accuse the SK Wyverns staff of being un-American.

Apparently it all started when Scott demanded the manager produce a longform birth certificate to prove the team was actually Korean.

Luke Scott is a crazy person. This is immutable. I'm lower case 'l" libertarian and I believe that. However, the fact that this other guy is picking this moment to make this point makes me want to consider if this is a thing were Scott had a legitimate gripe, took it to his manager, and is getting hammered down like the proverbial nail that sticks out.

The dispute raised questions about the cultural differences between any entity on Earth and Luke Scott.

Could be. Seems like the most likely scenario is that Scott was a pain in the butt signed to a one year contract on a team with a 34-48 record.

If Scott's gone at the end of the year, and if SK's season is over anyway, and if he's as annoying as I've been led to believe over the years, of course they were going to cut him. What's the upside to keeping him around? The drive for a .450 winning percentage?

Do they still have to pay him, as in MLB? If not, maybe we should be a bit cautious about accepting the teams's justification.

That's a Japanese saying....

Though I wouldn't be surprised if the Koreans have something similar.

Luke Scott just tweeted his firing was a "conspiracy by Dinosaur lovers"

There was a famous wrestler (then commentator) in the 50s-80s named Gorilla Monsoon.
