Former Yankee Chuck Knoblauch agrees to talk to House committee

Much like Gino Cimoli Perente before him…look for Knoblauch to overthrow the government.

Chuck Knoblauch has been found.

The former Yankee and four-time All-Star who was named in baseball’s Mitchell Report, agreed to a deposition or transcribed interview with the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform. Knoblauch will be deposed Friday in Washington D.C.

Originally, Knoblauch was to be deposed last week. But after failing to respond to the committee’s invitation, Knoblauch was subpoenaed and a new deposition date was set for Tuesday until Monday’s announcement.

“We are pleased that Mr. Knoblauch has agreed to voluntarily participate in a transcribed interview or deposition with the Committee. As a result, the Committee is withdrawing the subpoena,” reads a statement released by the committee chairman Henry Waxman (D-Calif.) and ranking minority member Tom Davis (R-Va.).

He fell off the Hall of Fame ballot after one year, and he has stated that he has no interest in a post baseball career. In other words, he no longer 'needs' baseball anymore, unlike most former stars his age. Might he be the most likely of the former players to open up and come clean (assuming he has anything to come clean about) because he has the least to lose?

Interesting use of the word voluntary. Hey, it was Knoblauch's choice; he could either choose to participate, or choose to be forced to participate under penalty of law. Good choice, I guess.

This stuff is getting about as old as the New Kids on Knoblauch.

Why do I get the funny feeling that Knoblauch is going to show up at the hearing looking something like this.

Did he ever explain why he didn't respond to the original subopena?

There was no "original subpoena." There was an "invitation." Then they tried to subpoena him, but couldn't find him to serve it. So now he accepted the 'invitation,' so they're not subpoenaing him.

This is the part I was referring to.

Maybe Lonnie Smith was serving the subpoena, and got faked out?

Okay, but you asked why he didn't respond. There was nothing to respond to; he didn't get it. They went to his house and he wasn't there. He could have been on vacation. Or too drunk to hear the doorbell ring. Whatever.

Alrighty... he didn't respond as opposed to not getting it. We're not in court here... I was just digging to see if there was an interesting story involved.
