Fox Sports—Greinke on why he chose the Dodgers: money

Gotta love the way Greinke doesn’t mince words.

Finally.

An honest man.

Maybe even two.

Zack Greinke said that when it came down to choosing the Dodgers over other teams pursuing him, it was all about the money.

The new Dodgers right-hander said that he was leaning toward joining the Texas Rangers before taking the Dodgers’ offer of $147 million over six years.

“The negotiations changed,” he said.

Was it the money that put the Dodgers over the top?

Greinke smiled and said: “That’s what it comes down to at the end.”

Awesome. Refreshing honesty is so rare.

Money can be used to buy lots and lots of Chipotle guacamole.

He probably even has enough now to pay out-of-state tuition and send his kids to the excellent schools of the greater Denver area.

The interactions between Greinke and TJ Simers are going to be...curious. There's a chance Greinke stabs Simers in the throat before the end of spring training, and there's a chance that Simers is driven insane by Greinke's inscrutability and spends the rest of his life gibbering away in a padded cell, babbling about the unknowable pitcher.

I'd say there was a significant chance of Simers spending time in a padded cell before this signing. He's already well versed in the gibbering and babbling.

I look forward to the press conference when Zack listens to a Simers question and tells him, "I don't think I want to talk to you."

Actually, for whatever reason I have a hunch that Simers and Greinke will hit it off. Simers strikes me as the sort of guy who would appreciate the weird artlessness and disarming bluntness of Greinke -- if nothing else, he will give good quote. His real hatred is for the spoiled, star-trip types.

Then again, I am literally one of three people on this site who sees any worth in Simers as a columnist whatsoever, so I'm not the guy you want to rely on.

Simers seems to get along best with guys who are huge jerks. He wrote many fawning columns over Jeff Kent and Milton Bradley.
