FOX Sports: Rosenthal: Blue Jays may listen to offers for Glaus

Robo-notes…

The Blue Jays say they aren’t looking to move third baseman Troy Glaus, but their perspective might be changing.

The Jays are now willing to listen on Glaus, one rival general manager says, a notable development for the Padres, Dodgers and Angels.

Glaus, 30, has a full no-trade clause, but it stands to reason that he would be open to returning to his native southern California. The Padres, Dodgers and Angels each would benefit from the addition of a power-hitting third baseman. Each also build a trade package around a highly regarded prospect at third.

The Jays could ask the Padres for Chase Headley, the Dodgers for Andy LaRoche, the Angels for Brandon Wood. They also could seek pitching, then use their savings to invest in other players during the off-season.

O.K. let's see:

The Jays need offense.
The Jays have no organizational depth at 3B.
If the Jays hope to contend in 2007 (there's time, but not much of it) they need another bat.

J.P.'s solution?

Trade our biggest offensive threat who plays a position that we have no legitimate options for thereby requiring that we may potentially need two transactions to cover: a third baseman and .260/.350/.500 30-40 HR production.

(sigh) Yo Keith [Law]! Quick question: By any chance was the guy who replaced you have the first name Randall?

Best Regards

John

Headley has a 1.081 OPS in AA this year. You really want to give him up for Troy Glaus?

Billingsley and Laroche for Glaus and Chacin.

I can almost understand the thinking here, Wells is starting to warm up, as is Thomas , Zuan is back from injury and Hill is hitting consistantly. So just as the Jays start to look slightly better at the plate why not ditch Glaus? I mean the won big today without him? Thats the thinking behind it I am sure, its also wrong on in about ten different ways that even a casual Jays fan would understand.

dodgers are not going to trade billingsley. they need him with schmidt going down. Laroche's shoulder still hurts. I dont know if he could pass a physical at this moment. hes currently on the 7day DL in vegas cause of a sore shoulder.

Padres already have a young 3B who hit like that in AA last year, moved up to AAA and kept the OPS well over 1.000, but not hitting so well in the bigs. Headley may be a solid player, maybe a future star, but certainly is no sure thing. For a very good team in a close, exciting division race, Troy Glaus looks like a perfect fit for the Padres, the kind of guy who might be the difference between falling just behind the Dodgers, and in making a WS appearance.

Wood and Santana for Glaus.

Or maybe Saunders. I dislike Saunders less than Santana.

Wood and Santana for Glaus.

Ha ha!

I'll listen if Jessica Alba calls...

Okay well both of them may be too much but neither are perfect, so 1 may be closer to the real price, considering the context of Stoneman's stinginess with trading prospects, Santana's questions of health, Wood's K's, and JP's non-need to dump Glaus in a salary dump. Wood is no sure thing...sure I like him but I also like the player who's doing what he could do now.

The Jays are 7 games out of the wild card. Sounds like JP is being, you know, realistic about their chances. All the article says is he's starting to listen to offers. It'll probably take a couple weeks to make a deal anyway giving the Jays "plenty" of time to start making a move if they're going to.

Santana's questions of health
What questions would those be?

Santana getting homesick?
