Francona apologizes to Valentine via text

Message: :x Sorry for the ####### mess I left behind…:-($)

Terry Francona sent a text message to Bobby Valentine, apologizing for causing any commotion in the Red Sox clubhouse on Saturday.

The former Red Sox manager, now an ESPN analyst in town to do Sunday night’s broadcast, held court in Boston’s clubhouse, seated on a stool near Dustin Pedroia’s locker while about a half-dozen of his former players pulled up seats around him.

“Yes, he sent the text message,” Valentine, the team’s current manager, said prior to Sunday night’s rematch between his club and the Yankees at Yankee Stadium. “But it wasn’t necessary.”

... When asked about it on Sunday, Francona would neither confirm nor deny that he sent the text message.

“That’s personal,” Francona said. “I don’t talk about my text messages.”

Absolutely absurd. If anyone ought to apologize, Red Sox management should apologize to Francona and admit what a mistake they made running him out of town on a petulant snit.

Not only that but Tito should have found out who made the 'pills comment' and sued. Or sued the paper. Or I would hope he at least talked to his lawyer. That's seriously ####### with a guys livelihood.

Maybe the guys Tito talked to will go to the FO and pull a 'Band of Brothers' and refuse to suit up for BV.

Tito failed to do his job last fall. The fact that ownership jumped in and put an even worse management structure in place doesn't absolve him from blame.

I'm with Phil on this one. The fact that ownership/management is delusional enough to try and acquire Francisco Liriano gives you an indication of how out of touch they are.

if it's any consolation the brewers bullpen has made the 2012 season incredibly taxing in that any time the team gets to the 8th inning as a fan you just assume the bullpen will fail in some spectacular fashion and for the last two months that very negative outlook has been proven correct on a repeated basis.

I have definitely been watching far fewer Red Sox games than I usually do. Partly I'm busier in the evenings, but this team really offers very little to entertain a fan and combines that with maddening chokes every few nights.

Yeah, sorry about today. But then the Nats' bullpen wasn't much better. It was really a battle of which team's relief pitching was the least incompetent.

Judging by the return the White Sox got, Ben apparently bid some AA relievers, at most. Hard to be terribly concerned about that.

It's concerning that they're still in a buy mode, which indicates there's little chance they start selling off spare parts before Tuesday, which is what they should be doing. There's no reason Cody Ross and Aaron Cook need to be on this team in August.

It's a bit of a consolation - Sox are the opposite with this horrible rotation - I'm basically only watching Clay's starts at the moment. I thought nothing could piss me off anymore and then , this became a story.

I've been really enjoying watching some of the NL teams this year in any case , especially the Pirates.

ESPN showed a stat that Boston is 10 below .500 with Lester and Beckett - and if they win tonight the rest of the starters would be +10.

This seems pretty clearly to be a silly story, but it is yet another story whose subtext appears to be a Pedroia v. Valentine dynamic in the clubhouse. I'm wondering if they're going to have to choose between the two.
