CLE Indians team batting avg = .208
sad, but....
CLE Indians pitchers opponents batting avg allowed = .207

So CLE is outscoring their opponents, and has a 9-7 record

That's a whole lot of not-hitting. Are these guys the new 60s White Sox?

The Rockies are hitting .214 as a team. The Rockies! And yet they still have a winning record.

Carlos Santana had a walk and a hit yesterday but he is giving me bad memories of Ryan Howard, both in performance and appearance (he seems overweight - more overweight than Howard ever was).
   5. The Yankee Clapper Posted: April 20, 2018 at 03:55 PM (#5657189)
Max Scherzer @ Clayton Kershaw tonight (10:10 PM ET). Worth staying up for.
   6. Rally Posted: April 20, 2018 at 04:01 PM (#5657192)
While looking up Santana's stats I noticed that 2nd year reliever Victor Arano has a perfect "game" going. Over 7 appearances he's got 8.1 perfect innings.
   7. The Yankee Clapper Posted: April 20, 2018 at 04:13 PM (#5657199)
Should have noted in #5 that the Max Scherzer @ Clayton Kershaw game is on ESPN tonight.
   8. Crispix Attacksel Rios Posted: April 20, 2018 at 04:14 PM (#5657200)
That is correct! Arano has also had a 3-pitch inning, of which there are only (?) unofficial records but it happens about five times a year. The last ones for the Phillies were by Jamie Moyer, Randy Wolf and Andy Ashby.

Yet another good Ruben Amaro trade was sending Roberto Fausto Carmona Hernandez to the Dodgers (he made 9 starts there) for Arano and Jesmuel Valentin.

His uncle Ramon had an incredible career.

Just a note to give kudos to Hombre for his Omnichatter thread titles, which always give me a chuckle.

Thanks, Benji, it's my pleasure. Also...

HOW WILL THE ANGELS LOSE TODAY?!
   11. TomH Posted: April 20, 2018 at 05:12 PM (#5657227)
#3, The Rockies winning record is from perfecting the art of losing by a lot and winning by a little.
   12. rconn23 Posted: April 20, 2018 at 08:15 PM (#5657283)
Sonny Gray is terrible. No way he holds this lead.
   13. cardsfanboy Posted: April 20, 2018 at 08:27 PM (#5657286)
Tommy Pham, really loves Cincy pitching.
   14. cardsfanboy Posted: April 20, 2018 at 08:31 PM (#5657289)
Jose Martinez had a small cold spell, but it looks like that spell is over as he gets another single.
   15. Random Transaction Generator Posted: April 20, 2018 at 08:35 PM (#5657291)
Lourdes Gurriel Jr. gets his first hit and RBIs in his first MLB game.
I'm guessing Yuli was watching on TV.
   16. cardsfanboy Posted: April 20, 2018 at 08:36 PM (#5657293)
Apparently Yadi also loves Cincy pitching. 2-0 Cardinals.
   17. Walt Davis Posted: April 20, 2018 at 08:38 PM (#5657294)
Lourdes has looked good in both his PAs and made one solid play at 2B and just made a nice turn. We'll have to wait to see how his next 6000 or so PA go before reaching a conclusion but so far so good. :-)
   18. cardsfanboy Posted: April 20, 2018 at 08:38 PM (#5657295)
Yadi now has more RBI than Albert Pujols, in Busch stadium 3 history..... (of course Pujols only played in that park from 2006-2011)
   19. Walt Davis Posted: April 20, 2018 at 08:39 PM (#5657296)
Not exactly a pitching clinic in this Jays-Yanks game.
   20. cardsfanboy Posted: April 20, 2018 at 08:42 PM (#5657298)
I know it's not exactly sports worthy comment, but I kinda feel bad for Brandon Finnegan(the Reds pitcher)... The Cardinals have a good idea on how to hit him this year and have torched him, and his only two starts has been against the Cardinals.
   21. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: April 20, 2018 at 08:43 PM (#5657299)
One pitch into Cubs-Rockies and there is a replay delay...because apparently Rockies' video system isn't working, so they aren't able to delay for replay.
   22. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: April 20, 2018 at 08:43 PM (#5657300)
But Javy makes it all better.
   23. cardsfanboy Posted: April 20, 2018 at 08:45 PM (#5657301)
Dangit, Baez has now passed Yadier in homeruns for this season... pfftttt... :) (note I will be happy if Yadier ends up with 15 homeruns, and I fully expect Baez to be around 30.)
   24. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: April 20, 2018 at 08:50 PM (#5657304)
Yeah, but I think Yadi's still ahead in neck tattoos, at least until the All-Star break.
   25. Walt Davis Posted: April 20, 2018 at 08:58 PM (#5657305)
That lead didn't last long
   26. cardsfanboy Posted: April 20, 2018 at 09:04 PM (#5657307)
Jose Martinez, professional hitter, makes it 4-0 Cardinals with a double.
   27. AT-AT at bat@AT&T Posted: April 20, 2018 at 09:06 PM (#5657309)
Sanchez really sucks as catcher blocking, but throws well, hits well !
Keep Sanchez !
   28. cardsfanboy Posted: April 20, 2018 at 09:07 PM (#5657310)
Apparently he is not a professional base runner though.... got picked off after the double...or at least nearly picked off... Ump called him safe, replay looks like it's close, my Cardinal eye says he is safe, but I can't be sure.
   29. cardsfanboy Posted: April 20, 2018 at 09:09 PM (#5657312)
After looking at the slo mo replay, I do think he was out but that is a really close call that I'm not sure there is definitive evidence to overturn the original call (meaning that if the play was reversed, called out, and the Cardinals challenge the replay, it wouldn't be overturned either)
   30. Crispix Attacksel Rios Posted: April 20, 2018 at 09:14 PM (#5657313)
I think the 3rd base ump called a Maikel Franco ball foul that bounced on the 3rd base line. Never seen them get one wrong but I think that was wrong.
   31. Crispix Attacksel Rios Posted: April 20, 2018 at 09:43 PM (#5657328)
The Phillies had a man on third and first with one out. And then both runners were caught in a rundown on one play. A double-play rundown. That... should never happen. Did anyone see this? Good job by George Kontos stepping off the mound to somehow pick off two people.

Tom McCarthy scores it 1-3-4-2-5-6-7. Then someone let him know there's also an 8 involved.
   32. Random Transaction Generator Posted: April 20, 2018 at 09:44 PM (#5657329)
Sanchez really sucks as catcher blocking, but throws well, hits well !

They said during the broadcast that Sanchez has thrown out only 1 of 7 runners...and that runner was Granderson back in the opening series.
   33. cardsfanboy Posted: April 20, 2018 at 09:46 PM (#5657330)
Jose Martinez, professional hitter, with his third hit of the game (it's the bottom of the fourth)
   34. AT-AT at bat@AT&T Posted: April 20, 2018 at 09:51 PM (#5657333)

All TIME , not one sucky Granderson. Comeon !
   35. AT-AT at bat@AT&T Posted: April 20, 2018 at 09:53 PM (#5657334)
Sonny Gray, and my Number 54 T-Shirt ... it is getting kinda sucky.

Maybe Gray ain't as good as hoped for ?!

According to BBREF, 5 of those SBs came with Dancin' Betances on the mound (though the CS did too), make of that what you will ...

I thought it was Betty White...or sliced bread.

We are going to lose this ############# game.
   41. Moses Taylor, aka Hambone Fakenameington Posted: April 20, 2018 at 10:18 PM (#5657348)
I love javy. Just an amazing player. So smart, and actually maybe his results are catching up with his talent.

And the Rockies are throwing the ball around like a bunch of little Leaguers. Javy is in their heads.
   42. Moses Taylor, aka Hambone Fakenameington Posted: April 20, 2018 at 10:19 PM (#5657349)
According to BBREF, 5 of those SBs came with Dancin' Betances on the mound (though the CS did too), make of that what you will ...

So that would include the 3 Pillar stole that game.
   43. Moses Taylor, aka Hambone Fakenameington Posted: April 20, 2018 at 10:22 PM (#5657351)
For those not watching, javy is a triple short of the cycle. That last AB he got a double on what should have been a single, then he beat a throw to third on a bouncer to short. He's now hitting .288/.373/.763 this year, that includes a brutal first week which started with an long 0-fer.
   44. Misirlou doesn't live in the restaurant Posted: April 20, 2018 at 10:29 PM (#5657356)

.347/.472/.918 since going 0-12 in the first 2 games of the season.
   45. Tom Nawrocki Posted: April 20, 2018 at 10:32 PM (#5657358)
Rockies with four bad defensive plays in one inning: Desmond nonchalants Baez's ball in left center, turning it into a double; Story makes a dumb throw to third when he had an easy out at first; Arenado rushes a throw to first with Contreras running and throws it away; Iannetta throws a ball into center. Gray should have been out of that without a run scoring.
   46. mathesond Posted: April 20, 2018 at 10:34 PM (#5657360)

This just occurred to me, do catchers get charged with allowed steals on on steals of home?
   47. Moses Taylor, aka Hambone Fakenameington Posted: April 20, 2018 at 10:38 PM (#5657361)
Brian Shaw...great memories.
   48. Moses Taylor, aka Hambone Fakenameington Posted: April 20, 2018 at 10:41 PM (#5657362)
Let's see how Baez swings for the triple here...
   49. Moses Taylor, aka Hambone Fakenameington Posted: April 20, 2018 at 10:44 PM (#5657364)
...just a single.
   50. Jay Seaver Posted: April 20, 2018 at 10:44 PM (#5657365)
Drew Pomeranz not sharp in his first start of the season, throwing 45 pitches in the first inning and giving up 3 runs.
   51. Brian C Posted: April 20, 2018 at 10:45 PM (#5657366)
I know we're used to seeing Javy alternate hot streaks with long cold winter streaks, but this is a pretty big time week even by his hot-streak standards. Just crazy fun to watch.
   52. Moses Taylor, aka Hambone Fakenameington Posted: April 20, 2018 at 10:48 PM (#5657367)
Even when Javy screws up, he makes a play. Was gonna be meat at the plate, but kept the rundown going to let Bryant get to 3rd and Rizzo to 2nd (on a ball Rizzo hit to 2b).
   53. Misirlou doesn't live in the restaurant Posted: April 20, 2018 at 10:48 PM (#5657368)
Make that .360/.428*/.920.

*error on previous calculation

Schwabomb. Last time he faced Shaw was leading off the 10th of game 7...
   55. Brian C Posted: April 20, 2018 at 10:56 PM (#5657371)
12 runs for the Cubs tonight so far, which can only mean one thing: they'll be no-hit in Coors Field tomorrow night.
   56. Walt Davis Posted: April 20, 2018 at 11:03 PM (#5657374)
they'll be no-hit in Coors Field tomorrow night.

You're saying Joe will give Javy the day off?
   57. phredbird Posted: April 20, 2018 at 11:03 PM (#5657375)
OK bud, let's get this over with.
   58. phredbird Posted: April 20, 2018 at 11:04 PM (#5657376)
so he walks the leadoff batter ...
   59. Brian C Posted: April 20, 2018 at 11:08 PM (#5657378)
You're saying Joe will give Javy the day off?

Nah, they'll just intentionally walk him 4 times.
   60. phredbird Posted: April 20, 2018 at 11:10 PM (#5657379)
oh for cryin out loud ...

Tyson ross no hitting D Backs through 6.

   66. Lassus Posted: April 20, 2018 at 11:21 PM (#5657387)
Not exactly all-star baseball, but the Mets on top! We'll see if Familia can hold it.
   67. Los Angeles El Hombre of Anaheim Posted: April 20, 2018 at 11:21 PM (#5657388)
The Angels don't even pretend to have starting pitching anymore. Lance Lynn is starting to look pretty spectacularly good now.

Javy triple watch alert.
   69. Lassus Posted: April 20, 2018 at 11:28 PM (#5657390)
Well hot damn, we actually won.
   70. shoewizard Posted: April 20, 2018 at 11:29 PM (#5657391)
Padres the only team in the majors never to have a no hitter by the way
   71. Howie Menckel Posted: April 20, 2018 at 11:37 PM (#5657393)
well, the Mets have been around longer and their only "no-hitter" featured an obvious double allowed by Santana - a year before instant replay.

kind of a metaphysical question if the Mets have never allowed 0 hits in a game. they never have, but....
   72. Walt Davis Posted: April 20, 2018 at 11:41 PM (#5657394)
Nah, they'll just intentionally walk him 4 times.

Well, after a few steals, bad throws, crazy Javy antics, that's at least 3 runs right there.

Back on Javy triple watch.

Kind of wild that it took the Royals until April 20 (the second game of the day, no less) to get a win in a game where they gave up a run. (their three wins on the season having all been shutouts)
   79. Misirlou doesn't live in the restaurant Posted: April 21, 2018 at 12:07 AM (#5657402)
Speaking of awful, looks like last year's Justin Wilson has arrived.
   80. Moses Taylor, aka Hambone Fakenameington Posted: April 21, 2018 at 12:07 AM (#5657403)
Justin Wilson is rebroken.

   82. Brian C Posted: April 21, 2018 at 12:16 AM (#5657406)
I'm not too worried about Wilson, the weather was clearly ####### with him.
Rizzo has been awful tonight too, 2 gidp.

But he did get the game-winning RBI! #1985stats

By a single player, I 6 by Don Mattingly and Travis Hafner, NL record is 5 by Albert Pujols and Ernie Banks...

For a team it's 14(2006 Cleveland/2000 Oakland) and NL 12(2000 St Louis/1997 Atlanta)
