From 319 transactions to No. 1 overall: Sacramento River Cats win third Triple-A championship

The first game was on April 4, in West Sacramento, under a cloudy sky with a first-pitch temperature of 63 degrees.

The final game arrived after marathon of season: 146 games, 319 player transactions, road trips near and far and a fair share of seasonal twists and turns.

It was Tuesday night in Memphis, game-time temperature a sticky and humid 96 degrees.

This is Minor League Baseball, where series survival is equally as vital as attrition, with followers needing updated rosters to keep track of it all.

The story of a championship season- of interest for those interested in the minor leagues.

I know that being a Columbus Clippers (and Indians) fan makes me biased, but a one game contest, held after many of the best players on both teams have been called-up to the majors for September roster expansion, is not something I consider a championship. Congrats to Sacramento for being the PCL champion after winning their 5 games series and congrats to the Clippers for being the IL champion after winning their five game series, but in my mind the AAA "championship" game is really more of an exhibition game.

As a fan of the Durham Bulls, who lost the 2018 AAA Championship game, I agree with you. As a fan of the Durham Bulls, who won the 2017 AAA Championship game, I think you couldn't be more wrong.

It was 100 here in Montgomery at 6 p.m. yesterday. I made note of it on FB.

Probably won't be much cooler this evening; it's 100 as I type this & was 101 at this time yesterday.

As I also noted on FB, I tend to remember Sept. 17s from years past because it's my birthday, & I'm pretty sure at least hints of fall temps are usually evident by that date.
