Clearly, there is only one hope: Somebody fakes an injury, allowing Barry Zito to ride to the rescue.

Ten greatest Game Fours in history.

If I had to do it over again, I'd put 1996 in there. Then again, there might be more great Game Fours than any other game in World Series history. It's deep enough into the Series that there's some real tension developing, but early enough in so that all Series are still going on. There's also more odd games (the two biggest comebacks, Bill Bevens, the 1941 back-from-the-dead comeback) that arguably any other World Series game.

Let's see what happens tonight.
   11. CWS Keith plans to boo your show at the Apollo Posted: October 31, 2010 at 07:37 PM (#3680509)
From the link in 10:

Given how 1906’s Game Four went, it’s fitting that 99 years later the Sox won an extremely tight one of their own. The Sox didn’t score here until the eighth inning, making the game filled with tension. Adding to the excitement, Houston got a baserunner on against Mark Buehrle in seven different innings. In five frames the runner made it to scoring position. They never could get one home, though.

Mark Buehrle did not, in fact, pitch game four of the WS -- Freddy Garcia did. Buehrle's last appearance in that series was the previous night when he came in as a closer.
   12. TerpNats Posted: October 31, 2010 at 08:11 PM (#3680518)
I caught a glimpse of the Jacksonville-Dallas game on CBS, and after the Jaguars scored their fourth touchdown to make it 27-3 pending the extra point, you could hear the chant "Let's go Rangers" resound through Cowboys Stadium.

Sorry, Jerry, you're no longer king of the Metroplex.

From today's Denver Post:

As a Met, Jeff Francouer came to the plate to Jimi Hendrix's "Purple Haze." As a Ranger, his batter clip is "Chicken Fried" by the Zac Brown Band. A Braves fan will tell you it's the first adjustment he's ever made in the batter's box.
   15. Lassus Posted: October 31, 2010 at 09:04 PM (#3680531)
This is my favorite quote from yesterday's chatter:
Burrell has got to sit - his bat is slow and his mind is lost.
   16. Lassus Posted: October 31, 2010 at 09:07 PM (#3680536)
Bonus: Player in costume during the game.

As long as Wilson doesn't count, sure.

Mark Buehrle did not, in fact, pitch game four of the WS -- Freddy Garcia did. Buehrle's last appearance in that series was the previous night when he came in as a closer.

Yup. I goofed. That one bugged because I actually remember watching that game, too. Actually that was the problem - I remember watching it, so didn't bother to double check it.

I remember Buehrle pitching in Game 3, but he threw so little I thought Guillen let him go the next day. I know Buehrle won Opening Day w/ a 1-0 victory, and heard the Sox season was bookended with them, and I somehow conflated things in my mind that Buehrle was in both.
   19. Tom (and his broom) Posted: October 31, 2010 at 10:10 PM (#3680549)
Bonus: The phrase "Trick or Treat" is used to describe a player reaching over the railing or into the dugout.[ ]
   20. Eddo Posted: October 31, 2010 at 10:13 PM (#3680550)
There's even more symmetry for the 2005 Sox: Buehrle won 1-0 on opening day; Contreras won 1-0 on the first day after the All-Star break; Garcia won 1-0 on October 26.
   21. Bitter Calculus Instructor Posted: October 31, 2010 at 10:22 PM (#3680553)
Bonus suggestion: Bad Halloween pun. i.e. "this player will scare you," "he's giving tricks/treats," etc.

I'm watching the clean feed tonight, probably about 5 seconds ahead of y'all, so I'll try not to give away things FROM THE FUTURE.

Sadly, this means I won't be able to comment on the commercials. I know you're all crushed. I'll try and pass along anything interesting shown between innings.

Also: What happens if this football game that nobody gives a #### about goes into overtime? Are they going to force the World Series into some basic cable ghetto in favor of an NFL regular season game featuring teams from Phoenix and Tampa?

I'm reasonably sure that, unless if you live in one of those areas, they would go to the ballgame.

Smith looked alright, certainly better than the other Smith. OTOH, seeing Troy Smith try not to make mistakes for 3 quarters before having a niceish fourth reminded me that the problem with this team is crappy coaching.

During the canned montage pre-game comparing the starters I swear Gary Thorne said "Madison Bumgardiner". Or maybe I'm just sensitized because it took me a year to stop doing the same thing.

McCarver and Buck aren't able to distinguish between Hunter and Bumgarner, one of whom is a very good pitcher.

Are you being sarcastic? That's cool, if so. To be honest, I haven't a clue how long the delay is, I'm working so I haven't had time check the broadcast feed for the actual delay as yet.

OH, also, that wasn't from the delay, it was from the tech work-up during the break anyhow.

I guess the holiday isn't so big with the Latino guys.

Is it true there's only one African-American (Darren Oliver) total between the two rosters?
