Games 162 Game Chatter

Let’s smash all the game 162 game chatters into one thread, shall we? There is a full slate of games, but as far as playoff races are concerned, these are the games that matter (although if you want to talk about any of the other games for any reason, feel free).

Red Sox (Lester) vs. Orioles (Simon) at 7:05 PM
Yankees (TBD- no, seriously, TBD) vs. Rays (Price) at 7:10 PM
Phillies (Blanton) vs. Braves (Hudson) at 7:10 PM
Cardinals (Carpenter) vs. Astros (Myers) at 8:05 PM

If this is true, seems likely Reyes won't be back:

SamMillerOCR Sam Miller
Francesa on Mets: "They said off-the-record they have plans at 80, 90, 100 and 110."

Cot's has them at $140M for 2011.

Not to hijack this thread, but the Mets only have $60 million committed each of the next two years, and $0 after that.

I don't know that they're even close to a good crowd.

The home crowd in Baltimore looks significantly bigger.

I dunno, 1st error at 2nd for Zobrist in 65! games and it was a complete and utter GACK! job on just about the easiest play possible?

I vote yes.
   322. RB in NYC (Now Semi-Retired from BBTF) Posted: September 28, 2011 at 11:26 PM (#3941770)
I thought Bobby V. had a Moneyball reference in the pre-game, does that count?
   323. Justin T., Director of Somethin Posted: September 28, 2011 at 11:26 PM (#3941773)
It was a terrible error by Zobrist.

Where is the Sox crew?
   325. Brian White Posted: September 28, 2011 at 11:27 PM (#3941777)
The problem with flipping games: on the 2-1 curve to Prado that was called a strike, I exclaimed, "What! That was a ball earlier in the game!" Then I realized I was thinking of a pitch Alfredo Simon threw to David Ortiz.
   326. Brian White Posted: September 28, 2011 at 11:27 PM (#3941779)
And we're tied in Atlanta.

I think they think I'm a troll.

Joe Pesci has a much better chance of getting laid than the non-angry version of the male character in the Snickers commercial on MLB.TV.
   329. Brian White Posted: September 28, 2011 at 11:29 PM (#3941788)
And as the Braves announcers note, Bourn was totally ready to plow over Carlos Ruiz if Ruiz ended up blocking the plate on that sac fly.
   330. NJ in DC (Now with temporary employment!) Posted: September 28, 2011 at 11:31 PM (#3941798)
Dellin still with no idea where the ball is going.
   331. JJ1986 Posted: September 28, 2011 at 11:31 PM (#3941804)
Dan Uggla has only 80 RBIs to go with his 35 HRs. That would tie the lowest ever for a 35+ home run season.

   333. Brian White Posted: September 28, 2011 at 11:32 PM (#3941810)
It's one play, but Montero took like four hours to get that ball down to second. I suspect a lot of Rays running this evening.

Not exactly surprising, but Betances has horrible command.

Quarantined, huh? With what? Paranoia?
   336. NJ in DC (Now with temporary employment!) Posted: September 28, 2011 at 11:34 PM (#3941820)
[333] Yeah, that usually happens when you double clutch.

In other news, the Rays hitters should just not swing ever.
   337. Tom Cervo, backup catcher Posted: September 28, 2011 at 11:35 PM (#3941822)
Looked like Betances barely had faced home when he started his delivery on ball 4. I expect bad command anyway, but that could be a sign it's nerves as well if he keeps rushing.
   338. Guapo Posted: September 28, 2011 at 11:35 PM (#3941824)
I think the Sox chatterers are taking a major karmic risk by segregating themselves from the general Primate population.

Throwing the ball was a terrible decision by him, by the time he was ready to release it Upton was nearly to second. All he could do at that point was make a lousy throw (which he pretty much did) and risk sending it into CF.
   341. JJ1986 Posted: September 28, 2011 at 11:37 PM (#3941831)
Joe West is such a giant #######.

I know this is the AJ Burnett line, but Betances has good stuff. And he's still plenty young to learn where it's going.

Actually, it appears looking at strike three will be their undoing.

Nice turn by Pedroia on a low throw.

Upton makes a nice catch and hurts his hand. Appears ok, though. Or maybe not, still rubbing his hand in between pitches.
   349. Tom Cervo, backup catcher Posted: September 28, 2011 at 11:43 PM (#3941867)
Uh oh looks like Upton may have hurt his wrist on the dive.

Even if the Rays are 100% to lose the game at this point, I don't see how you get to 90% for Boston. If you give them 50% to win the one-game playoff in case of a loss, they would have to be, what...80% to win today's game?
   400. Karl from NY Posted: September 28, 2011 at 11:59 PM (#3942022)
Cot's has them at $140M for 2011.

Not to hijack this thread, but the Mets only have $60 million committed each of the next two years, and $0 after that.

Big chunks of that $140M were Beltran and K-rod, who already got cleared off the books for 2011.

(It's always time for a Mets hijack, but nobody will see this post past the page flip anyway.)
