I don't even know what to say any more about the Angels and UCLs. Is this bad luck? Something systematic? Voodoo? There have been enough now to where I'm seriously considering that it's something in the strength/flexibility training they do (or don't do) system-wide. Scioscia has been there for this whole run of elbow injuries. But it's not like Scioscia is the one implementing the strength program; I assume they have an expert who does that, and I'm not sure how long that person has been around. Nagy has only been pitching coach for a couple years, so it's tough to blame him.

This just sucks.
   2. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: July 12, 2018 at 12:39 PM (#5709064)
It might have something to do with the fact that they apparently keep giving their pitchers "platelet-rich injections" etc. instead of just getting the TJ over with. I was thinking that Richards had already had TJ, but they went with the "conservative care" in 2016 instead according to reports.

Ditto... in fact, I was thinking "yeesh, what is this - his 3rd TJ?"

Actually, most of their pitchers do get the TJ surgery. I've lost count on how many, but probably something like 10 guys currently in the organization who have returned from TJ in the last 3-4 years or are still recovering from it. Richards is the odd duck who didn't. Yet. Him and the one who can hit.

Too much off-the-field elbow bending? Someone should do a study.

Chris O'Leary has been talking about Richards's problematic arm action on Twitter for years now. I guess it's not an incredible accomplishment to predict that a pitcher will hurt his arm, particularly one with a history of arm injuries. But it's still worth noting.
