Garza sends message to Cueto: ‘Grow the hell up’

Don’t piss off Touchy Connors!

“Cueto should learn you don’t go after guys’ heads,” Garza said. “Don’t wake a sleeping dog and I think that’s kind of immature on his part and totally uncalled for. He’s lucky that retaliation isn’t in our vocabulary here.

“That’s kind of BS on his part. Just totally immature. If he has something to say about it, he knows where to find my locker and definitely I’ll find his.”

...“That’s totally uncalled for (when) you’re up 4-0,” Garza said. “I hope he hears this, because I really don’t care. If we want to retaliate, we could have and lost a bullpen guy. but we don’t need that. We play the game the right way and we’re going to take our lumps when we take ‘em and we’re going to hand ‘em out when we hand ‘em out.”

Cueto got suspended for kicking St. Louis Cardinals catcher Jason LaRue during a brawl in 2010. That concussion forced LaRue into retirement. Garza said he has no personal history with Cueto.

“I don’t know what the deal is between him and Zeus, but he needs to cut it out, because I’ll stop it,” Garza said. “If he wants to do it like that, then so be it. … This could be a warning, this could be nonsense, however he takes it, but (the way the game was played), I don’t like it like that.”

but it gets better yet:

In an article on reds.com, Baker said: “Take care of it then. I mean, [Cueto] couldn’t hit Wilt Chamberlain with that pitch. … I haven’t talked to Johnny about it. I don’t think there’s any bad blood between them or whatever.”
“I don’t think Johnny cares either. Would [Garza] have been as upset if he got the win instead of potentially get a loss? You gotta something to say, you go over there and tell him. Johnny ain’t running. Know what I mean? A guy can say what he wants to say, but it’s better if you go over and say it to his face.”

Baker also said they handled it differently back in the day, and advocated fighting.

“I just wish, just put them in a room, let them box and let it be over with, know what I mean?” Baker said. “I always said this. Let it be like hockey. Let them fight, somebody hits the ground and then it’ll be over with. I’m serious about that.”

Garza's right in this case. Cueto is a fantastic pitcher with something of an attitude (or perhaps the proper term is "sportsmanship?") problem.

He's no Valdespin.

That guy is the biggest douche in baseball. I can't believe he hasn't been beaten down already- by his own teammates, much less an opposing team.

Garza is an idiot. DeJesus himself was laughing about it when it happened. If it was intentional, Garza and Bob Davidson were the only 2 guys in the park who thought so.

I can barely parse anything Garza OR Baker are saying.

It's entirely possible Garza was aiming at DeJesus' head and just missed badly.

Garza certainly comes off as a bit of a douche in an article that's supposed to be playing him up:

“That’s kind of BS on his part. Just totally immature. If he has something to say about it, he knows where to find my locker and definitely I’ll find his.”

Then why the F didn't you find it and tell him?

“I hope he hears this, because I really don’t care.”

Clearly not, and that lack of interest obviously is why you're going on about it.

“Hopefully, the league looks at that. I don’t want him to get suspended or anything.”

No, you want the league to look at it and let it go, like you are doing. At length.

It's possible. Though trying to hit his team-mate in the head is an odd way for Garza to get back an Cueto.

Not all that related to the topic at hand, but coming home from today's Reds v. Indians game the folks we went to the game with pointed out Cueto's house which is just around the corner from theirs.

Be sure to pass along this location to Matt Garza.

"I'll bet on Garza because he's on my team," said Alfonso Soriano. "I hope Dusty will want to bet with me. I bet a couple hundred on Garza."

funny

I'll repeat this from the other thread: the tightness of the underwear involved in the judgements of Valdespin may not be measurable by human instruments.
