Baseball Primer Newsblog— The Best News Links from the Baseball Newsstand

I once went to Hackysacky’s Golden Oldies and they had a Mint- copy of Tyrone Schmidling’s “You’re Gone, I’m Left Behind” hanging from the 15-foot ceiling…that was also within reach.
Don’t fret too much, Royals fans, about Monday night’s offensive whiff. According to Hall of Famer George Brett, you still have reason to dream. In the AL Central, this team — offensive shortcomings and all — could contend for the division, he says.
“Why couldn’t they contend?” Brett said. “In our division, I think they can. No one is head-and-shoulders above anyone else.”
The Royals’ overall makeup has Brett believing it will at least be an interesting September.
“If you live in Kansas City right now,” he said, “and you’re not excited, then you’re not a baseball fan. “We see what can happen when everything comes together.”

The Royals are 2.5 games out of 1st place. The Giants 12.
His overall argument is pretty homer-centric, but this statement isn't so fanciful. As rfloh said, the Royals are only 2.5 games out right now, and I don't foresee anybody running away with the AL Central this year. I don't think he's basing the notion so much on the goodness of the Royals as he is the mediocrity of the rest of the division. So, in that light, it's not so fantastical.
But I don't think the Royals will win the division.
Also, what is a Ramon Ramirez, and where do I get one?
That might be equivalent to saying his veteran presence is needed to win the division...which is I think 75% of the goal (YMMV).
