George Brett takes a swing with bamboo bats (RR)

Most of the wheeling and dealing at baseball’s winter meetings is taking place at the Bellagio hotel and casino. But across town, Hall of Famer George Brett has been quietly touting his wares at a baseball trade show in the massive Las Vegas Convention Center.

For 11 years Brett and his brothers Bobby, Ken and John have been part of a baseball bat company that makes and markets bamboo bats, which the company heralds as environmentally friendly and the three-time batting champion lauds as being hard as a rock.

“It’s a strong bat. It doesn’t break,” said Brett

True…never saw the Sandman’s break.

Problem is tht they are NOT allowed to be used in the Majors, since they are multiple pieces of wood glued, coated and sanded together.

Ken's dead, Kevin.

It all sounds wonderful, until the first unprovoked panda attack.

Yeah, I don't think Ken Brett is in on this one anymore.

"It's a strong bat. It doesn't break," said Brett, whose team used them in a celebrity "Home Run Derby."

"We won," Brett said of the contest.

I wonder if perhaps Brett's team having George Brett on the team had something to do with it!

ECW! ECW! ECW!

Damn, I miss the mid-to-late 1990s. I used to get ECW on channel 58 (no cable) in Salt Lake City, back before they moved to cable and went out of business. The picture quality wasn't great, but the wrestling was fantastic.

I miss the late 70's and early 80's. Nothing holds a candle to Mid-South Wrestling from those years.

That particular problem is easily enough solved if the will exists.

Would that make Brett the next Spalding?
