Gesture by Indians’ Chris Perez riles Royals

Generator Hex!

During Monday’s game, Perez promised his teammates in the bullpen that if he struck out Dyson he would make the “you can’t see me” gesture popularized by pro wrestler John Cena.

Perez said before Tuesday’s game that the gesture was in response to what Dyson told Sipp.

“That’s the only reason I did it. I said, ‘all right, you’re coming for me, I’m coming for you.’ If I strike you out, you’re going to get the “can’t see me face.”

“What happened? Three pitches. You can’t see me.”

Dyson said he was already looking forward to his next matchup against Perez, who leads the majors with 17 saves.

“I can’t wait to face him again,” Dyson said. “I want to beat him. That’s the good part of this game, you get to go back and try to beat a guy, beat a team. If I had seen it, I would have said something, probably jumped out of character. Usually, that’s not me. Though that’s not how our organization is.

If you're *predicting* the behavior then it is by definition within your "character."

Still and all, though, I have some sympathy for the notion that pitchers are a hell of a lot more thin skinned about this sort of thing. If a batter had done that at the plate, or on the field of play, the calls for his head would have been instantaneous. I concede there is a lot of high fiving and such in the dugout after a homer, but it's in the dugout for the most part.

Having a gesture all planned and ready to go for when you get someone out, especially one copying a professional wrestler, is so incredibly lame that it's tough to get worked up about. That's just sad.

I always wondered what tht gesture was all about. That's a pretty lame bit of taunting, I mean it's one step removed from a bad ass game of peek-a-boo.

It would be better if he threw three straight balls and seemed almost dead, but then recovered thanks to all the little Hulkamaniacs screaming for him. Or booing for him in Perez's case.

If you are going to rip anyone off, then surely it has to be Kenny Powers??? (BTW - the end of season 3 sucked - shame - everything about the show was pretty damn special)

Pfft. It's marketing, like Jeter's little fist pump. The issue is CENA!?

A boatload of THIS. Cena? Ugh. I'd pay to see a closer twirl his finger like Macho or strut like Flair. My dream is to watch Rivera come back and after his first successful save, "YES! YES! YES!" Maybe some Cactus Jack "bang bang!"?

Kenny Powers? ####, I'd rather watch Jack Black's tired act than see Danny McBride in anything again.

And Jack Black hasn't made me laugh in 12 years.

I thought the series finale was fitting. I loved the look Kenny gave April when she said "why couldn't we just come with you to Texas" like he didn't even think of that. It wasn't the most hilarious of episodes, but it was a good way to end the show. Having him do something stupid and going to prison or dying would've been a bit too dark & sad; on the other hand, Kenny succeeding in the majors would've been over-the-top sentimental.

Season 3 was great in general. This might be my favorite scene in the entire show. That, followed up with Stevie hooking up with Shane's sister, was just incredible.

All these years I did not even know the "you can't see me" hand-thingy had anything to do with wrestling. Pretty sure that's just a thing now.

Season 3 had some hilarious parts and I loved it's darker theme - which is why I wish what we thought had happened to Kenny (trying not to spoil it here, but you mention it above - did in fact happen

That was dark, awesome , twisted and just how I thought maybe it should have ended. I might need to watch the finale again as I was livid. Still 3 fun seasons - Season 1 just slayed it for me and is one of my favourite seasons of comedy ever.

The next guy who takes Perez deep ought to dance like La Parka coming down the 3rd base line.

Which is exactly what Dyson thought -
"I guess he felt good striking me out. It's not like he struck out Albert Pujols."

The freak-out over this gesture and phrase unfortunately reminded me of Avatar. Sounds like someone wants to be a Na'vi.

Watching a pitcher scream "Yes! Yes! Yes!" after strikeouts would be hilarious.

I've gotta go with Santino Marella, Scotty Too Hotty, or Cousin Luke and Cousin Butch.

Maybe some Cactus Jack "bang bang!"?

Dennis Eckersley actually made that gesture, after striking out Ed Sprague to end the 8th inning of this game. How Roberto Alomar restrained himself from breaking out a spinneroonie after homering off Eckersley in the 9th, I'll never know.
