MIAMI — The outfield grass at Marlins Park was a worn-out mess on Saturday, with those who arrived for the team’s annual FanFest being greeted by signs reminding them that the turf will be replaced soon.
When it comes to the Marlins, many things are a work in progress.
Wearing new uniforms with the rebranded team logo, in a stadium that has gotten spruced-up since last season ended, some of the 2019 Miami Marlins gathered for the first time to greet fans and start hyping the new season. Pitchers and catchers report to the team’s spring training home in Jupiter on Wednesday.
All three of the Marlins’ remaining fans are sorry that they have reached this state.

1. Pat Rapper's Delight (as quoted on MLB Network) Posted: February 11, 2019 at 12:24 AM (#5814227)I saw my first Rangers pre-season commercial today, showing people in a studio setting who are shocked(!) that this is the last year for the current park and an off-camera voice encouraging them to get their tickets now. No players were shown or mentioned. I would guess if you ask most non-BDC fans, they like the park and don't want to see it go, especially after only its 26th season. Reminding them of this is probably not the best tactic for selling tickets, but when there are no players worth building an ad campaign around I guess you take what you can get.
uh hunh
sounds like a wife beater promising his battered spouse that this time things will be different. see, he brought roses. and candy. this time he really means it
Three sentences in, and he's already lying. Not a good sign!
"Tremendous amount of talent," my ass.
Yup.
What are we up to now, fool me 5 times?
I'd still rather have been a Dodger fan for the last 25 years. By a lot.
and of course the Padres, Brewers, Mariners, and Nationals have never won one.
And still you omitted the Indians, Tigers, Rays, Rockies and Rangers.
The problem is that the Marlins are primarily getting money from people watching other teams.
Since MLB teams are primarily getting money from television you would think they would care about the show enough to get people in the seats. Baseball is more interesting to watch on television with full stands. Lower the ticket prices enough to get a decent "live studio audience" for the people who watch on TV.
The Marlins should just add a laugh track to their broadcast.
- they get paid the same whether 5 or 50 million people watch them on tv. they sure as heck are not gonna LOWER ticket prices for no reason at all and make less money
DINGDINGDING !!!!!!!!
so that's 17 of the other 29
Their TV deal is up at the end of next year. (Apparently their existing TV deal is less than lucrative by baseball standards, so it's unlikely to decrease - but I imagine better ratings would help them in negotiating the exact amount.)
Yes, with the Dodgers its 18 teams that have not won a World Series since the Marlins won their first. Only nine teams have won a title since they won their second (the Diamondbacks and Angels victories came in between, as did three Yankee Series wins.
They usually don't do well on the teevee either. The Rays have much more radio/TV support. Tampa's typically in the middle of the pack, sometimes in the top half. It's just fans don't go to Suncoast Dome.
