Is this a Mark Wohlers "inability to pitch" type of injury? David O'Brien seems somewhat skeptical.

Whatever the case, it's a bummer. Venters is a blast to watch (not to mention very, very good) when he's on.

Does it matter? I assume every team in baseball plays this sort of "injury" - be it real or imagined - with their rosters over the course of the year.

Of course it matters. An elbow problem is very different from a mental block. Hard to say which is worse, though.

Three weeks ago ChipJoe claimed Venters' problems were mechanical. They said his body was flying open and his arm was trailing, so he was up and in to lefties.
