The Mets will do the Mets-y thing and hire the agent, and it will be a disaster.

Bloom, a Yale graduate, has a deep background in analytics and is well-regarded within the industry for helping keep the Rays competitive on a tight payroll. He was previously a candidate for GM vacancies with the Phillies and Twins.

That would seem a mixed bag for the Wilpons. Boo! analytics, but yea! for tight payroll.

Van Wagenen, 44, is the co-head of CAA’s baseball’s division, whose clients include Jacob deGrom, Yoenis Cespedes, Noah Syndergaard, Brandon Nimmo and Tim Tebow.

No experience in a team operations? You would think that would count against a candidate for the job of running a team's operations. The Wilpons think, "Great!" since he won't demand the Wilpons give him largely free rein, like how most successful owners run their teams.

[...] As it stands, the Mets lag behind most of the major leagues in full-time analytics personnel (they have three full-time employees), which suggests they will look to bulk up that department if Bloom is hired.

So, the fact that they have no regard for spending on analytics means they will hire an analytical guy and spend more money on analytics. That doesn't sound very Met-sy.

The fact Van Wagenen, a Stanford graduate, lacks experience in baseball operations suggests the triumvirate of John Ricco, Omar Minaya and J.P. Ricciardi will remain in place to guide the front office if he is hired.

Guess who John Ricco, Omar Minaya and J.P. Ricciardi are recommending that the Wilpons hire??

So... there's a non-zero chance Dave Littlefield wouldn't have been the worst choice the Mets could make.

Bloom seems too radical for them. Not the analytics stuff - I don't think they care one way or the other - but he'd probably try and tear the previous administration down, bring his own team, and start from scratch, which I think the Wilpons have no interest in. They would undoubtedly prefer some continuity, and they like to have their own guys that they trust in the power structure.
