HOW WILL THE ANGELS LOSE TODAY?!

Worst start ever.

Cardinals are toasting the ball so far today, but no results to show for it.
   4. AT-AT at bat@AT&T Posted: September 18, 2018 at 07:58 PM (#5746947)
The Cards at least have Catching and Pitching, I hope they go far.
   5. AT-AT at bat@AT&T Posted: September 18, 2018 at 08:00 PM (#5746948)
Being a since-childhood fan of the Yankees... the worst thing is Judge and Stanton, two ROBO swingers, who strike out looking so bad, kids should really just turn away in a disgusted manner and yell : 'Gross, Daddy !'.

Torres and Andujar kinda even it out again.
   6. AT-AT at bat@AT&T Posted: September 18, 2018 at 08:01 PM (#5746950)
I now like the Athletics and Cards.
   7. AT-AT at bat@AT&T Posted: September 18, 2018 at 08:07 PM (#5746953)
Jesus Christ, every time I see Andrew McCucheon nowadays, I think to myself... do you really have to carry guys like this into the playoffs ? How many years of crappiness do you need, to see the worthlessness ?
   8. BDC Posted: September 18, 2018 at 08:11 PM (#5746955)
Blake Snell going for his 20th win here in Texas tonight. OK if I root for him, or does that betray both Ranger fandom and sabermetric precepts? :)
   9. AT-AT at bat@AT&T Posted: September 18, 2018 at 08:12 PM (#5746957)
At least McCucheon looks sharp all shaved and ####...

Nice walk, finally something productive.

I now like the Athletics and Cards.

Every year I push for that... at one point in time they were tied for the same number of championships with 9, so it was nice to argue for the tie breaker... but even since the Cardinals have made it 11-9 it still seems like a good matchup.
   11. AT-AT at bat@AT&T Posted: September 18, 2018 at 08:17 PM (#5746961)
Sadly the A's are really pitcher-injury ridden, so I guess their offense won't be enough.
The Cards I have liked for the last 5 years. Of course, they were better with Phamtastic and Piss me up, Scotty. ! :)
   12. BDC Posted: September 18, 2018 at 08:26 PM (#5746965)
Snell throws a hitless first, but an E6 drives his pitch-count up to 19.
   13. phredbird Posted: September 18, 2018 at 08:43 PM (#5746980)

HOW WILL THE CARDINALS MAKE ME WORRY TODAY?

matt carpenter looking pretty bad so far. he's something like 0 fer september.
   14. phredbird Posted: September 18, 2018 at 08:47 PM (#5746985)

cards broadcasters speculating about who would win a race between mr freeze and bader ...

bader could give him a race over a short distance, but mr freeze would prob beat him over a quarter mile, huh?

Did they use "Na Zdorovie" or "skål"? That could make a huge difference.

In back-to-back starts now, Strasburg has hit all 3 people at home plate with the same pitch: Brian Anderson, Matt Wieters, and the home plate umpire all got tagged by the pitch caroming around like in a pinball machine. That's quite the talent!
   18. phredbird Posted: September 18, 2018 at 08:55 PM (#5746991)

wong still swinging a mean bat in this series ... good for the flyin' hawaiian.

now don't get picked off!!!
   19. rconn23 Posted: September 18, 2018 at 08:57 PM (#5746992)
Happ showed a lot of fight tonight. Strong outing despite not having his best stuff. If only the Yankees offense remembered what it was like to show fight.
   20. AT-AT at bat@AT&T Posted: September 18, 2018 at 08:58 PM (#5746995)
Huey Lewis and the News - BaderWong is Bad out !
   21. phredbird Posted: September 18, 2018 at 08:59 PM (#5746997)
damn.

wong goes to 3rd on baders hit ... then gomber bunts, but ... late break for home on the bunt, they get wong.

now replaying.
   22. phredbird Posted: September 18, 2018 at 09:00 PM (#5747000)
jesus carp, come on ...

get a hit just so i don't have to listen to edmonds deconstructing his at-bats.

OY ...
   23. AT-AT at bat@AT&T Posted: September 18, 2018 at 09:03 PM (#5747001)
Carp is due !
   24. Meatwad Posted: September 18, 2018 at 09:09 PM (#5747004)
So the red sox will clinch in NY that should be amusing.
   25. Jay Seaver Posted: September 18, 2018 at 09:11 PM (#5747005)
Good Eovaldi is a really pleasant surprise tonight. I'd more or less written this game off when seeing the Sox's lineup.
   26. Bote Man Posted: September 18, 2018 at 09:17 PM (#5747013)
Tim Britton @TimBritton
Steven Matz is the first pitcher to homer in consecutive starts this season. Travis Wood did it last year.

#NoDH
   27. phredbird Posted: September 18, 2018 at 09:19 PM (#5747015)

lordy, gomber is struggling ... i hope this is it ...

which raises the question of who in the sam hill we can trot out there ...

Good Eovaldi is a really pleasant surprise tonight. I'd more or less written this game off when seeing the Sox's lineup.

Eovaldi's overall ERA: 4.56

Eovaldi's ERA vs the Yankees, including tonight: 2.13

Christ, is the Yankees' offense pitiful. Nothing but a bunch of strikeout artists whenever they need a hit.

   29. BDC Posted: September 18, 2018 at 09:30 PM (#5747018)
Snell has a one-hitter through four, and leads 3-0; needs another inning to be eligible for #20.

Otherwise I can’t say it’s been very interesting to watch the Rangers put up 13 straight zeroes. At least I only paid $6 for a lower-deck seat each night.
   30. Crispix Attacksel Rios Posted: September 18, 2018 at 09:38 PM (#5747020)
Tied up on a pinch-hit double by Justin Bour! Truly the new Matt Stairs.
   31. Jay Seaver Posted: September 18, 2018 at 09:39 PM (#5747022)
Aw, heck.

which raises the question of who in the sam hill we can trot out there ...

Flaherty... Wainwright apparently, and I'm pretty confident that Martinez will get a start the last week of the season....and of course Mikolas.

Gomber was always a fill in.
   34. Srul Itza Posted: September 18, 2018 at 09:45 PM (#5747026)
So Happ pitches 6 innings, gives up only 1 run (technically unearned -- but he put the first two men on base, so I count this against him).

Green pitches one inning, and then the Yankees finally decide to score.

So Green is now in line for the win.

This is one of the things I hate most about the win statistic. Not the only thing, but it is right up there.

   36. phredbird Posted: September 18, 2018 at 09:47 PM (#5747028)

it just looked like hicks was a bit spent last night, and so could only be used sparingly tonight after brebbia.
   37. Dale Sams Posted: September 18, 2018 at 09:48 PM (#5747029)
Neil Walker, Andrew McCutchen, Happ...true Yankees. I remember when we used to ##### how the Yanks got Bobby Abreu for nothing
   38. Crispix Attacksel Rios Posted: September 18, 2018 at 09:48 PM (#5747030)
Phillies announcers sounded excited for once after Alfaro's homer.

Drew Smith got away with one hanging curve, not the next pitch in the exact same spot. This Drew Smith may look like Orel Hershiser but he's not as good.
   39. Count Vorror Rairol Mencoon (CoB) Posted: September 18, 2018 at 09:49 PM (#5747031)
Dammit, Hicks. That extra base was on you.

Didn't one of the main prospects they traded for Abreu later announced that he was retiring because he only wanted to play for the Yankees? Seems a little #####-worthy.
   41. BDC Posted: September 18, 2018 at 09:49 PM (#5747033)
Snell gets through five scoreless on one hit and 91 pitches. In fact that makes 14 scoreless on three hits for Texas in the series.
   42. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: September 18, 2018 at 09:55 PM (#5747036)
Anthony Rizzo is 14 pitches deep in his first at-bat of the night.
   43. the Hugh Jorgan returns Posted: September 18, 2018 at 09:55 PM (#5747037)
Can someone please enlighten me as to why the Red Sox didn't have Eovaldi come out for the 7th? 83 pitches, 2 hitter...game day stats look good. Was he struggling?

Sorry it's a delayed question, been busy at work.
   44. Meatwad Posted: September 18, 2018 at 09:55 PM (#5747038)
11 fouls and counting for rizzo.
Make that 12 full count strike 1 was looking.
   45. Meatwad Posted: September 18, 2018 at 09:57 PM (#5747039)
One hell of a catch on that liner to end the at bat.
   46. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: September 18, 2018 at 09:58 PM (#5747040)
Andriese is nearing 30 pitches even though he's not walked anyone and the only hit he's given up came on the third pitch of the game.
   47. Moses Taylor, aka Hambone Fakenameington Posted: September 18, 2018 at 09:59 PM (#5747041)
Javy javy javy

After Rizzo had a 17 pitch AB that ended with a rocket lineout.
   48. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: September 18, 2018 at 09:59 PM (#5747042)
Javy.

Glad to see they cashed in that runner on third (and more!)

Everybody Javy!
   50. BDC Posted: September 18, 2018 at 10:00 PM (#5747045)
Snell doesn’t even come out for the sixth - it’s somebody named Roe. Wonder if he’s ever pitched to Tyler Wade.

Which reminds me that the White Sox have pitchers now named Burr and Hamilton.
   51. Meatwad Posted: September 18, 2018 at 10:00 PM (#5747046)
That rizzo at bat wore him out.

edit: 14-4 now.

Well, better take advantage of that error.
   55. phredbird Posted: September 18, 2018 at 10:18 PM (#5747056)
YADI GO BOOM ...

well, it's a single throught the infield, but same result as the ball gets away from acuna in left ...

3 runs score, cards up 6-1
   56. Moses Taylor, aka Hambone Fakenameington Posted: September 18, 2018 at 10:19 PM (#5747059)
Hitting this guy really hard, making him work really hard too.

Keep throwing that ball all over the infield in the 9th, Yankees. Keep. That. Up.
   59. cardsfanboy Posted: September 18, 2018 at 10:20 PM (#5747062)
Yadier... not sure there is a player in baseball I'm more comfortable batting with the bases loaded... not sure why but it works for him. (career line is just .315/.346/.481/.827...still seems to give confidence (and with two outs and the bases loaded he's .310/.375/.506/.881....nothing spectacular, but nothing to sneeze at either)
   60. Jay Seaver Posted: September 18, 2018 at 10:22 PM (#5747063)
Ah, well. Enjoy one more day before elimination.

With no dog in that race, that ninth in New York was painful to watch.
   65. the Hugh Jorgan returns Posted: September 18, 2018 at 10:26 PM (#5747071)
boo, bad Red Sox lineup shows it's true colors.
Still don't get why they pulled Eovaldi. He seemed to be cruising.
   66. rconn23 Posted: September 18, 2018 at 10:27 PM (#5747073)
Well, a win is a win. But haven't seen a Yankees team this talented fall on its face quite this often this late in the season. What a stupid last inning. And when you can't hit Nathan freakin Eovaldi you know you're in a rut.
It would also help if Boone wouldn't bat their second best hitter NINTH! Boone never ceases to amaze.
   67. phredbird Posted: September 18, 2018 at 10:27 PM (#5747074)

hah! another hit ripped to left, it gets past acuna, run scores, tyler goes to second.

in all fairness, that was a tough get.

who's the lucky guy, cfb?

I dont know which is worse, the Sox fans at Over The Monster complaining about their 103 win team or the Braves fans at Talking Chops complaining about their division winning team that had no business sniffing the playoffs.
   79. salvomania Posted: September 18, 2018 at 10:50 PM (#5747099)
Mike Mayers looks great when the game's not on the line. Painting the edges at 97 mph, putting hitters away with off-speed stuff

EDIT: And walk/double immediately follows my post
   80. phredbird Posted: September 18, 2018 at 10:50 PM (#5747100)

boy, the stadium has really emptied out ...

i know it ain't over til it's over, but i have to say the cards have really showed me something here.

they get slapped around in the dodger series, then they have to get on a plane on sunday and fly to atlanta, and all they do is pound the braves two nights in a row.

there's life in that old body yet!

ugh ... there's a day game tomorrow. nothing is easy.
   81. phredbird Posted: September 18, 2018 at 10:52 PM (#5747102)

heh, all that's left in atlanta tonight are cardinal fans.

Is it a seeing-eye single if the charging 3Bman can't scoop it up, then it goes right under the glove of the LFer 100 feet farther out?? Asking for the Dodgers.
   83. phredbird Posted: September 18, 2018 at 10:55 PM (#5747104)

a two out walk, now freeman doubles, and it looks like mike mayers has lost his mojo that quick.

OK, the Rockies deserve to lose this game on the principle of basic fairness. They have the dropsies on defense tonight and are just making bone-headed fielding mistakes.
