Goose Gossage Talks Baseball With Bruce Beck

You’ll be surprised to hear what he has to say about Thurman—and what he thinks of “The Boss,” George Steinbrenner.

Now let me tell you some stuff about Goose that you won’t see or hear. Isn’t that what a blog is all about it?

First of all, he’s punctual. Perhaps I should say ridiculously early. I told Goose to meet me at the studio at 3:40 p.m. He arrived at 3 p.m. sharp.

Secondly, he doesn’t believe in email and doesn’t have an email address. And he hasn’t text messaged anyone in his life.

Goose is a superb gentleman. He is far from that intimidating presence he was on the mound for 22 years in the majors. He is engaging and friendly. He spent 15 minutes talking baseball with Sue Simmons in the make-up room and enjoyed every minute of it.

And Goose, who recorded 310 saves for nine different teams, thinks the media contingent of today is too large and too aggressive.

And why the hell did Samuel Fahnestock have to go and invent the soda fountain?! Sweet syrupy teeth rotting ########!

He doesn't believe email exists? I just used it tonight. I mean, it could all be in my head, but it's no more imaginary to me than Goose Gossage.

It's not that he doesn't own a computer or know how to use one - it's that he doesn't believe in email. It's a purely principled stance.

I believe in an email address but not in email.

are we really focusing on Goose Gossage? Bruce Beck is a miracle, the 8th Wonder of the World! Has that man aged? And he's still second fiddle to Len Berman! This isn't incredible to anyone else?!

If Goose Gossage knew about the joy of forwarded group emails, he surely would join the Cyber ride.
